(Minghui.org) Before cultivating Falun Dafa, I thought I was a good person among people. When shopping, if a vendor gave me too much change, I always returned it. However, I couldn’t resist bargaining with sellers for a lower price. Some claimed they wouldn’t make a profit, and others offered me a lower price. I didn’t appreciate those who lowered their prices, because I thought the seller couldn’t lose money. After practicing cultivation and studying the Fa in depth, my compassion arose. I realized that everyone was suffering, and sometimes, I even shed tears for them. Now, I no longer bargain with vendors, understanding that running a business is not easy.
Last month, I visited my daughter for two days. I found that her bed was very comfortable, so I asked her, “What makes your mattresses so good? How much did it cost?” She told me that it was a memory foam mattress that only cost about 100 yuan. I said, “The mattress I have is made of steel wire, and it is uncomfortable. When I get home, I will change it to the foam kind.” She said, “Do that, people here like it.”
After I got home, I went to a mattress shop in town. The woman shop owner said she would order a mattress, and I could pick it up in three days. After negotiations, I paid the deposit. Three days later, I went to pick it up. The owner said to me unhappily, “I’ve made no profit from this sale. I miscalculated. I didn’t make any money after I paid for shipping.” She opened her phone and showed me the cost on the receipt. I saw that she indeed hadn’t made any money. However, at that time, I thought she was not telling the truth, so I only paid her the originally agreed-upon price.
Back home, I called my daughter and discussed what had happened. She said, “She indeed didn’t make money from you. My mattress is five centimeters thick and costs 130 yuan. The mattress you bought is 10 centimeters thick, so it should cost about 260 yuan. She sold it to you for 220 yuan, so it’s true that she didn’t make a profit.” Only then did I realize that the shop owner did not make any money.
Thinking that I am a Dafa cultivator, I should act according to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. I should give the shop owner 40 yuan. I went to the town and found her. I asked her, “Do you recognize me?” She said, “I do. Auntie, what do you want to buy?” I said, “I don’t want to buy anything. I came to talk to you.” She smiled and said, “Okay.” She brought a stool over and let me sit down.
Once seated, I said, “Not long ago, I bought a mattress from you. Do you remember?” “Yes.” “That day, you said you ordered it for me but didn’t make any profit. I went home and called my daughter. She told me it was true that you didn’t make a profit. Her mattress is 5 centimeters thick, and she spent 130 yuan on it. The one I bought from you is 10 centimeters thick, which should have been 260 yuan. You lost 40 yuan that day. So I came to give you the money I owe you.” I took out 40 yuan to give to her.
She was deeply touched and said sincerely, “I can’t take this money. It was my mistake to calculate the wrong price in the first place. Let it go. As long as you know I didn’t make any money, I am grateful.”
“You have to keep this money. This is your hard-earned money, and I can’t take advantage of you,” I said earnestly.
“That day, I saw that you were a senior. If you had been a young woman, I wouldn’t have let you have it at that price. I didn’t expect that you were kind-hearted and would come to give me money,” she poured out her heartfelt words.
I said, “I am a practitioner of Falun Dafa. I want to be truthful and kind. I don’t want you to lose money. Our Master teaches us to be sincere and kind, so I came to give you the money I owe. If I didn’t practice Falun Dafa, I would have enjoyed scoring a bargain.”
“You have reached a very high realm by practicing Falun Dafa.” She separated the bills in half and said to me, “Auntie, I will keep 20 yuan, you can take back 20 yuan,” as she slipped the money into my hand.
“I can’t take it, I appreciate your kindness.” I didn’t take the money she offered.
She sincerely said, “I’m really embarrassed to take this money.”
“Don’t be embarrassed, this is your money, it is your hard-earned money,” I said to persuade her.
Before saying goodbye, I shared some facts about Falun Gong and asked if she had previously joined the Communist Youth League or the Young Pioneers. She replied, “Several people have asked me about this, but I have never joined any affiliation. Our family was going through a difficult time then, and I didn’t spend much time in school.” I gave her a truth amulet, and she happily accepted it and thanked me many times.
When I turned to leave, she walked with me to the mall entrance. She repeatedly said, “Auntie, come to me for anything you need in the future, and I will give you a discount, and I will return the money to you. I can’t bear to keep your money.”
I said: “Okay, I’ll do that.”
“Please do come again.”
