(Minghui.org) After over one year of detention, a 55-year-old Jiaozuo City, Henan Province resident was sentenced to 3.5 years for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been targeted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Bian Xiao’e was arrested on the evening of June 7, 2024, after she was followed by the police while distributing Falun Gong informational materials. They raided her home and confiscated her computer, printer, and other personal items. She was detained at the Jiaozuo City Detention Center and denied family visits. Her family was also kept in the dark of her case status.
Minghui.org confirmed in late July 2025 that Ms. Bian had been admitted to the Xinxiang Women’s Prison in June 2025 to serve a 3.5-year term, but details about her indictment, trial, and sentencing remain unclear.
Past Persecution
Ms. Bian took up Falun Gong in 1996 and she credits the practice for helping her become healthier and live a fuller life. After the persecution began in 1999, she was repeatedly arrested and her home was ransacked. She was given two forced labor camp terms totaling three years between 2000 and 2009. She was also held in a brainwashing center for a month at an unknown time.
On March 27, 2014, Ms. Bian’s son, Mr. Bian Bo (also a Falun Gong practitioner), was arrested while on his way to host a wedding in a neighboring county. He was later sentenced to three years and taken to the Zhengzhou Prison. His sentencing dealt a heavy blow to his father, who soon fell ill and died in September 2015.
While still mourning her husband’s death, Ms. Bian was arrested on December 8, 2016. She was detained for 16 months and released on April 7, 2018. During her detention, Ms. Bian’s mother, in her 80s, missed her so much that she cried almost every day.
The police continued to harass Ms. Bian and monitor her daily after her release. Only eight months later, on December 18, 2018, the police arrested her again when she went to her daughter’s home to see her granddaughter. She was held at the Jiaozuo City Detention Center for two weeks and her elderly mother was left at home to fend for herself.
The police kept harassing Ms. Bian after she was released. They took photos of her, fingerprinted her, and recorded her phone number. They also ordered her to report to them if she should ever change her phone number or travel out of town.
Ms. Bian was arrested one more time on June 20, 2019. She was held at the Jiaozuo City Detention Center for an unknown amount of time.
