(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners participated in the Tapestry Multicultural Festival in Downers Grove on September 6, 2025. They demonstrated the exercises and told people the benefits of the spiritual practice.
The event organizers said that people welcomed and enjoyed the live performances by talented artists, interactive cultural activities, delicious global cuisine, as well as stalls set up by various community groups. The event brings everyone together to showcase and celebrate the rich culture and traditions from Europe, Australia, North America, and Asia. Many people came to watch and experience this festival.
Practitioners introduced Falun Gong and described the positive changes that the practice brings to people’s physical and mental health. Many people immediately expressed an interest in learning the exercises and were surprised when they were told it’s taught for free. Some people learned the movements during the event. When practitioners said there are practice sites in nearby Chicago and Naperville others said they would go to there to learn the exercises. More people were happy to know they could go online to find out more information and learn how to practice Falun Gong.

One female university student studying biology learned the exercises at the event. She said she had practiced yoga for 12 years, she loved to meditate, and she is especially interested in Eastern culture. She joined the practitioners in doing the sitting meditation and was able to sit for a long time in the full lotus position. She said she felt a strong energy. She plans to go to the practice site in Naperville on Sunday.
A woman joined practitioners in doing the sitting meditation.
Two women who said they were Christians said they were not surprised to hear of the 26-year long brutal persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP and its extension overseas, because they knew a long time ago that the regime is notorious for suppressing religious beliefs. They expressed sympathy for the Falun Gong practitioners, and said they encourage them to continue raising awareness and exposing the persecution.
A middle-aged man came with his child to the practitioners’ booth. He said he had heard of the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong but did not realize it was still happening, and that it had escalated to transnational repression in the U.S. He took information and said he would read it and pay attention to these recent developments.
Many students attended the festival and came to the Falun Gong booth. They asked about the meaning behind the tiny lotus flowers and were told that the flowers had the message “Falun Dafa is Good” on them. Practitioners then further explained that in China, such a simple meditation exercise is prohibited. They were shocked. Practitioners reminded them not to be influenced by communist ideology and they nodded in agreement.
