(Minghui.org) After living away from home for 11 years to avoid being persecuted for practicing Falun Gong, Mr. An Renrong was arrested on July 25, 2024 and sentenced to fourteen months. He was released on September 3, 2025 after serving the term.
Mr. An, of Wuyishan City, Fujian Province, began to practice Falun Gong in March 2006. He used to suffer many chronic diseases, including inflammation in his stomach, intestines, prostate, throat and sinus, as well as mouth ulcers and severe insomnia. He was weak and his entire was in pain. But just two months after he practiced Falun Gong, he recovered and could eat whatever he wanted.
Because he told people the facts about Falun Gong, Mr. An was arrested and given an 18-month labor camp term in April 2007. He was first held at the Rujiang Drug Rehabilitation Labor Camp and then transferred to the Fuzhou City Forced Labor Camp on November 1, 2007. The guards forced him to sit on a small stool for long hours and deprived him of sleep. He was also held in solitary confinement and watched by the inmates around the clock. The guards force-fed him when he held a hunger strike to protest. His term was extended by one month because he refused to renounce Falun Gong.
Mr. An was arrested again on December 27, 2011 and taken to an isolation room with padded walls in the Wuyishan City Detention Center. He was handcuffed to a chair and interrogated. Three officers beat and kicked him and restrained him on a tiger bench. When he held a hunger strike to protest, they tied him up with tapes and force-fed him. He was emaciated from the torture and almost died.
After Mr. An was released on bail on January 17, 2012, the police continued to work on his case and sought to prosecute him. Days after he was indicted by the Wuyishan City Procuratorate in early April 2023, the Wuyishan City Court scheduled a hearing for April 18. The judge also indicated that they were planning to sentence him to three years. To avoid the persecution, Mr. An was forced to live away from home and was put on the wanted list by the court.
After eleven years of displacement, Mr. An was arrested on July 25, 2024 by more than ten officers from the Nan’anguanqiao Police Station in Quanzhou City (about 280 miles from Wuyishan). He was transferred to the Wuyishan City Police Department the next day and then admitted to the Wuyishan City Detention Center on July 28. For the next two months, he held three hunger strikes to protest. He also wrote letters to the Wuyishan City Procuratorate, the Wuyishan City Court and the Nanping City Intermediate Court, urging people there not to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Wuyishan is under the jurisdiction of Nanping.
The Wuyishan City Court held three hearings of Mr. An’s case. He acted as his own lawyer and entered a not guilty plea. The judge still sentenced him to fourteen months at an unknown date.
