(Minghui.org) A woman in Yinchun City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, was arrested and sentenced to prison twice for telling people about how she benefited from practicing Falun Gong. She was sentenced to 3.5 years after her arrest in 2016 and to 2.5 years in 2022. She served both terms in Ningxia Women’s Prison.
Ms. Xu Runye, 70, of Inner Mongolia, is retired from the supply and marketing cooperative system. She had breast cancer in the past but recovered after taking up Falun Gong in December 2004.
Sentenced to 3.5 Years
Ms. Xu was arrested on November 23, 2016, with six other practitioners. All of their homes were ransacked. The police took them to Changcheng Middle Road Police Station for interrogation. The police handcuffed Ms. Xu and then pulled on the cuffs, making her hands swell and hurt. Ms. Xu and two other practitioners were given criminal detention, while the others were released.
On July 26, 2017, after more than eight months of detention, Ms. Xu stood trial at the Jinfeng District Court and was sentenced to 3.5 years in mid-December that year.
After she was taken to Ningxia Women’s Prison, she was held in the strict management division for more than a year before being transferred to the 5th Division. Division head Xin put slanderous words about Falun Gong on the restroom floor and on the seat of every inmate’s stool.
The guards and inmates did not let Ms. Xu wash her face, brush teeth, or wash her clothes. She did not shower for four months. During this time, the guards also tried to “transform” her by putting a music player on top of her head and playing recordings slandering Falun Gong. They also arranged for inmates to surround her and read words slandering Falun Gong.
The guards also shocked Ms. Xu with electric batons, hit her face with a cellphone, pinched her, and stomped on her feet. Her face and feet swelled up, and her clothes were torn.
The guards instructed the inmates not to let Ms. Xu have a full meal. The inmates threw their leftovers away and wouldn’t share with her.
The guards also forced Ms. Xu to stand from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. An inmate forced her to hold a piece of paper under each armpit and between her thighs. If she moved or the paper fell, she would be beater.

The inmates did not let Ms. Xu use the restroom for three days so she wet three pair of pants. After she washed her pants, the inmates did not let her dry them, so she had to wear wet pants.
Ms. Xu was released on May 23, 2020.
Sentenced Again to 2.5 Years
Less than two years after her release, Ms. Xu was arrested again on January 16, 2022, after a surveillance camera recorded her putting up informational posters about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and held her in the Yinchuan City Lockup for 13 days of administrative detention before transferring her to the Yinchuan City Detention Center.
In September 2022, Ms. Xu was sentenced to 2.5 years by the Xixia District Court.
Ms. Xu was taken to the 6th Division (the strict management division) in Ningxia Women’s Prison on February 7, 2023. When the guards and inmates hit her and pushed her down, she hit her head on the tile. A fist-sized blood-red bump appeared on her head.
She was then put in the 5th Division, also known as the quarantine division. The guards and inmates there hit, pinched, and smacked her. They didn’t let her sleep and removed the bed board so she had to sleep on the metal bed frame, without a blanket. She slept like this for more than a month.
To prevent Ms. Xu from meditating, the inmates poured water on the floor. Because Ms. Xu refused to give up her faith, the prison authorities had her son come to the prison and try to persuade her. The authorities also harassed her son at home and intimidated him.
Ms. Xu was released on July 16, 2024.
