Two Women Suffer Severe Health Problems Due to the Abuse in Ningxia Women’s Prison

(Minghui.org) Two Falun Gong practitioners developed severe physical conditions after being tortured at the Ningxia Women’s Prison.

Ms. Xin Linyuan, a 72-year-old retired accountant in Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, was arrested on May 15, 2022 but was released on bail due to her poor health. She was sentenced to two years and fined 10,000 yuan on July 4, 2024. Her appeal was rejected on September 9 that year. Weeks later she was taken back into custody and sent to the Ningxia Women’s Prison. She developed severe heart symptoms after being imprisoned for just one year.

Ms. Yang Jie, born in 1970, of Zhongwei City, was arrested on October 24, 2020 and was sentenced to six years on May 6, 2023. She was transferred to the Ningxia Women’s Prison in late August 2023. In order to force her to renounce her faith, the prison guards kept her in a damp, cold chamber which had water seeping from the ground. There was no bed and she had to sit, stand, and lie on the wet floor. She was later diagnosed with breast cancer and had her right breast removed in July 2025.

The Ningxia Women’s Prison, located in the capital city of Yinchuan, is notorious for abusing Falun Gong practitioners jailed there for their faith.

The practitioners are labeled, “political felons,” and monitored around the clock by designated inmates, who force them to watch, read, or listen to materials that slander Falun Gong. When they refuse to write statements to renounce their faith, they are subjected to various forms of torture, including beatings, sitting on a small stool or standing for long hours, and having their mouths taped, their faces slapped, or their hair yanked.

To humiliate the practitioners, the monitoring inmates sometimes force them to completely undress in one minute and then put their clothes back on immediately. Some even had their mouths gagged with their own underwear or socks.

The inmates also alternate between giving the practitioners very little to eat and forcing them to eat large amounts of food. The practitioners were also often not allowed to brush their teeth, shower, or do laundry for long periods of time.
