(Minghui.org) A 76-year-old woman in Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, was recently sentenced to four years and fined 10,000 yuan for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Derong, a retired senior auditor, was arrested on October 15, 2025, by Zhengyang Police Station officers. To collect “evidence” against her, the police raided her home six times. She was sentenced by the Jianhua District Court around mid-December 2025.
Ms. Li’s husband had been bedridden for four years before her arrest. Worrying about her, he suffered a rapid health decline. Before he died on December 9, 2025, his family applied to allow the couple to see each other one last time, but the court denied the request. Ms. Li was sentenced days later.
Ms. Li’s latest ordeal stems from her arrest in September 2022, also by Zhengyang Police Station officers, after she was reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. The police confiscated Falun Gong materials from her bag and interrogated her. They also searched her home and confiscated three Falun Gong books, without producing any IDs. Ms. Li was released on bail in the evening. In an effort to close the case, the police arrested her again in 2025, and managed to build a case to have her sentenced.
In addition to the latest prison sentence, Ms. Li was targeted during a police sweep on September 27, 2013. The police raided her daughter’s home and confiscated a computer and printer. They also seized the 1,000 yuan cash she had in her bag. They later submitted Ms. Li’s case to the procuratorate. She was sentenced to four years by the Longshan District Court on October 11, 2014, and admitted to the Harbin Women’s Prison six days later.
