(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old woman in Xinglong County, Hebei Province is facing indictment for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Zhang Shuying, born in April 1965, took up Falun Gong in 1996 and soon recovered from her various diseases. She was arrested on the afternoon of July 18, 2025, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was taken to the Anziling Township Police Station and interrogated by captain Li Yafeng (+86-18732473888) from the Xinglong County Domestic Security Office.
Li tried to have Ms. Zhang admitted to the Chengde City Detention Center, but failed because she was deemed unfit for detention due to her poor health after undergoing two physical exams. Chengde City oversees Xinglong County.
Ms. Zhang was released on bail, only to see Anziling Township Police Station officers break into her home and raid the place that evening. They confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong, Minghui Weekly (a magazine with news and reports about Falun Gong), a music player, and other valuables.
An officer from the Xinglong County Domestic Security Office called Ms. Zhang’s family on December 12, 2025, ordering her to report to the Xinglong County Procuratorate on December 14 for deposition.
Ms. Zhang’s case was later forwarded to the Chengde County Procuratorate, which assigned prosecutor Wang He (female, +86-314-3129138) to be in charge. Chengde County is also under the administration of Chengde City.
Ms. Zhang’s daughter visited the Chengde County Procuratorate on January 9, 2026, to submit her application to represent her mother as a non-lawyer family defender and to review the case file. Prosecutor Wang said that only a lawyer could review the case file, when by law family defenders have the same rights as lawyers.
