(Minghui.org) I started practicing Falun Dafa when I was 29 years old in 1995. I have been on my journey of cultivation under the guidance of the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance for 30 years. I have experienced the joy of elevating in the Fa. I’d like to share how I have validated the Fa at work.
Being Worthy of Many People’s Expectations
I am a certified public accountant (CPA). I was working at an accounting firm affiliated with the Audit Bureau when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Dafa on July 20, 1999. I went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Dafa and was arrested and detained in a detention center. I was sent to a forced labor camp for one year and six months. I lost my beloved job.
Soon after I was released from the forced labor camp, a lawyer friend introduced me to Mr. Zhong, who hired me as a cost accountant for his company. The pay was high. He knew my situation and didn’t discriminate against me despite the fact that I practice Falun Dafa and had been detained in a forced labor camp. I was very touched. The company expanded rapidly and had healthy profits. It became a public company. I eventually left the company to deal with an issue related to my child’s education. According to my lawyer friend, Mr. Zhong appreciated my character and my professional abilities.
One day in 2003, I came across a police officer I had met in the detention center on my way to the bank. He told me that he and his colleagues had all said that I would definitely have a successful career because I was so capable. I thanked him for their trust and encouragement. I clarified the truth to him. He admired Falun Dafa practitioners very much.
I established my own accounting services company in August 2003 and also partnered with other people to set up an accounting firm. I launched my own career. I had a strong thought that I must cultivate myself well and validate Falun Dafa at work so I would be worthy of people’s expectations.
“The Falun Gong Accountant is Coming”
Aside from dealing with clients, I needed to deal with tax officers a lot at work. I clarify the truth wherever I go. The business owners and the tax officers all know that I practice Falun Dafa.
In the early years, companies didn’t want to deal with tax officers who often needed to be bribed. As a practitioner, I adhered to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance and didn’t always listen to the tax officers if my clients did business reasonably and according to the rules and laws when the tax officers made inappropriate requests. I sometimes argued with the tax officers. I explained the tax rules to them according to my understanding. I told them that my clients trusted me and I must be responsible to them and shouldn’t bring any losses to them due to my mistakes. When the tax officers found that my understanding of the tax rules was correct and that I was so responsible to my clients, they said that nowadays such accountants were rare. On several occasions they kept electronic versions of my data as a reference for other accountants.
An incident had happened while I was working for a public company. A tax inspector notified our company that a Beijing company had issued fake invoices to our company and asked us to pay the taxes, penalties, and late payment fees in person and bring our company stamp with us. I contacted the purchasing officer who said that our company had indeed purchased the goods according to our production requirements, and the Beijing Company had issued an invoice accordingly.
I prepared all the documents related to the transactions between our company and the Beijing Company and went to the tax inspection department with our purchasing officer. We explained the situation to the inspector, but he said to us seriously that a branch of the Beijing Tax Bureau demanded that all the purchasers pay all the tax and penalties. I said that we didn’t know the Beijing Company had issued fake invoices to other companies and that we would not have done business with the Beijing Company if we had known about the situation. I told him that we would suffer a big loss if the tax bureau adopted the one-policy-fits-all approach.
The inspector acknowledged that I was reasonable and the process of our purchasing was in line with the actual requirements. He let us leave. He said that he would report our situation to the bureau. But the result was still that we needed to pay the tax and penalties. I didn’t want to say more and asked the inspector to give us a copy of the decision from the Beijing Tax Bureau, and we would file a lawsuit against the tax bureau directly. I told him that the decision was illegal. I received a call from the tax inspector several days later. He said that the tax bureau made a decision after doing some research that our company only needed to pay the tax. When I came across the inspector in the tax office some time later, he said politely that such a responsible and knowledgeable accountant like me was rare these days.
I always remember Master’s teachings when I am at work and take personal interest lightly. The tax rules and laws have changed greatly during my work over the past 30 years. If I didn’t update my knowledge every several days, I felt that I would fall behind. Some tax officers came to me to discuss tax issues and I told them about my cultivation experiences and about the persecution during our conversations. I gave them Nine Commentaries on Communist Party booklets and other materials. Most of them happily accepted them.
As time went on, I made friends with many tax officers. They sometimes recommended me to business owners who were seeking accountants. Nowadays in China it seems like no deal can be made without bribery or gifts. But the tax officers found business for me without me providing any gifts or bribes. I was really touched.
When I was leaving the public company in early 2019, the replacement finance manager came to ask me some questions. She said that the tax officer had asked her to confirm some financial data with me. I was thankful to the tax officer for his trust. He later found a part time job for me.
One day I went to the tax office to do some business. The director shouted loudly, “The Falun Gong accountant is coming.” He was some distance from me. I greeted him respectfully. I knew that this sentient being was expressing his kindness after understanding the truth. I will do even better going forward.
“Our Company Changed After You Came Onboard”
A tax officer introduced me to a company who needed a part time accountant in early April 2019. The previous chief accountant had left the position abruptly due to a serious illness. The remaining two accountants and an accounts clerk hadn’t ever done the accounts independently. Soon one of the accountants passed the CPA exam and left the company. The company was then short of accountants.
The boss of the company became anxious. Though I was part time, I stayed calm and told the boss that I would come to the company two days a week. I first improved the skills of the accountant and accounts clerk. I insisted that both of them have access to the system. I recruited a new accounts clerk and trained the current accounts clerk Tang (alias) and the accountant Zeng (alias) to be more professional. Tang had been in the company for more than a year and only done the cash and bank related reconciliations. She was not an accounting graduate. Zeng was a veteran employee and an accounting graduate from a vocational college. She was in charge of bank loans and public relationships for the company.
The accounting work was very involved. Many transactions happened each day. The accounting employees needed to record them according to the transaction categories in compliance with related tax rules, accounting policies, and standards. The transactions were time sensitive. Cash and bank transfers needed to be recorded daily and reconciled monthly. There were deadlines to pay invoices and for the monthly tax return. I started to train them from these basics.
Initially, Tang had a lot of questions. I also asked Zeng to come over to listen when I answered Tang’s questions. Zeng was timid and said that she couldn’t understand me. I told her that I would explain it to her again if she couldn’t understand. Zeng was one year older than my daughter. I was very patient with her and took good care of her. She was very touched. She told me her life stories. She was feeling very low at the time and normally didn’t share her inner feelings with other people. I told her my stories of practicing Falun Dafa and my experiences during the persecution. After sharing with me, Zeng changed a lot and her accounting skills improved quickly within the two months. Looking back, I felt like it was a miracle. Zeng finally accepted the most difficult part of accounting–cost accounting. Tang improved a lot as well. She was good at finding problems herself.
By September 2019, Tang and Zeng could work independently. One day I chatted with the boss. He said that nowadays people didn’t teach other people what they know because they were afraid of losing their jobs if other people knew what they knew. He gave an example of the previous chief accountant. I told him that I was not such a person because I practice Falun Dafa and act according to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance and consider other people first. He then supported Falun Dafa. He forwarded a video that criticized the CCP to Zeng and asked her to show me the video because I don’t have the WeChat app on my cell phone.
Accounting work was closely connected with other departments from purchasing, collecting material, semi products, finished products, to sales of products and payment collection. I found that the accounting department was detached from other departments and worked behind closed doors. The accounts reports didn’t match the reports from the warehouse. When I made up new rules, the officers in the other departments were not happy because they felt like I had given them extra work. I could feel their anger when they talked to me. I explained to them patiently and let them know that our work and their work were part of a whole, and if the auditors found an issue in any part it would not be good for our company. They gradually accepted the new work rules and said that I was a good person. They talked to me nicely.
The next task was to sort out the ownership structure. The company had two independent entities. Some of the products of entity A were raw materials of entity B. Entity B reprocessed the materials and then sold them. The cost of the production lines of entity B (fixed assets) had been recorded in entity A’s accounts. The cost of raw materials had been recorded in the accounts books of both entities. The accounts of both entities were intertwined. For example, entity A bought a particular kind of raw material. Entity B purchased the same kind of material. It was very messy. I suggested an improved purchasing and accounting method to the boss. For example, I transferred the cost of the production lines from entity A to entity B. Each entity only purchased the raw materials that they used, not materials for the other entity. We finished this correction of accounts by the end of November.
The department above us required that entity B provide invoices for purchasing equipment and related documents at the end of the year, because entity B had purchased land that hadn’t come into production by the time due. Luckily, we had transferred the cost of the equipment from entity A to entity B and issued invoices in advance. If we hadn’t done that, we would have been fined a big amount. My boss was very thankful to me.
At the company’s annual meeting at the beginning of 2020, the boss said in front of all the employees that I had changed the company for the better after I came.
I now work in the company twice a month: one day at the beginning of the month, and one day at the end of month. Tang has become the accountant manager and Zeng has become the chief accountant. They can handle the accounts independently and professionally. Both of them passed their CPA exams before or just after 2021.
The director of a tax office told me about a company that needed a CPA two days a month. I knew that I needed to let another group of people learn the truth about Falun Dafa.
I know I am still far below the level I should reach, and far behind the diligent practitioners. I will try my best to let go of selfish notions, rectify myself, elevate myself in the Fa, and follow Master to return to my original home. Thank you, Master!
