(Minghui.org) Two elderly women in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, were recently sentenced to prison for publishing solemn declarations on Minghui.org to nullify statements that they were previously forced to write to renounce and denounce Falun Gong. Ms. Li Yuanyou, 68, was sentenced to 4 years. Ms. Zhan Daihui, 85, was given 20 months.
In order to make Falun Gong practitioners give up their belief, the communist regime often resorts to brutal torture, intimidation, brainwashing, implication of family members, and other despicable means. Some practitioners could not withstand the pressure and wrote the renouncing and denouncing statements as ordered. Once they came to their senses, they regretted having written such statements and published solemn declarations to nullify them.
Ms. Li was arrested at home on July 6, 2023, by officers from the Chaoyang Police Station. She was taken to the Sanjiang Detention Center and sentenced by the Nanming District Court in the second half of 2025. She appealed to the Guiyang City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict. She was admitted to the Guizhou Province First Women’s Prison (also known as Yang’ai Women’s Prison, located in the capital city of Guiyang) on December 20, 2025.
This is the second time that Ms. Li has been sentenced to prison. She was previously arrested on September 3, 2018, for distributing Falun Gong materials. After two hearings by the Nanming District Court on June 13 and October 25, 2019, she was sentenced to three years in late December 2019. Her appeal was also rejected by the Guiyang City Intermediate Court. She served time in the same Guizhou Province First Women’s Prison.
Ms. Zhan was repeatedly harassed after she published the solemn declaration. A judge from the Naming District Court went to her home on December 15, 2025 to hold a trial. She was sentenced to 20 months and fined 5,000 yuan. The judge didn’t immediately order her to start serving time, but threatened to take her to the prison soon.
