(Minghui.org) Thanks to the grace of our revered Master Li, I’ve changed from a selfish, self-centered person to someone who has learned to always consider others first.

Falun Dafa Saved My Life

Before I found Falun Dafa, I was critically ill, plus I was plagued by animal possession. I felt completely lost, just waiting in misery for my life to end. That was when a relative brought me copies of Zhuan Falun and The Great Way of Spiritual Perfection.

As I opened the book Zhuan Falun, I felt a wave of warmth as I looked at Master’s photo. I glanced at the Table of Contents and felt in my heart that this was what I was looking for and I would read it from cover to cover.

But as I started to read the first page, I experienced a terrible headache, so I put the book down. That evening when I picked it up again, the headache came back, and I had to put the book down again.

The following morning, I told my husband to return the books to my relative, since I couldn’t read them.

Just before my husband left, I thought I might as well take another look at the books. However, soon after I started reading, my headache returned, and then I fell asleep.

When I woke up, the headache was gone and I could read with no problem. I didn’t understand then that it was the animal possession that had tried to prevent me from reading Dafa books and that Master had helped me clear them out. Dafa is truly miraculous!

From that moment on, I read the books every day and learned to do the exercises by following the instructions. I didn’t have much education, so my husband read the books and did the exercises with me, hoping that I could improve.

I didn’t understand much about cultivation at that time, but I really enjoyed reading the Fa and doing the exercises. By and by, my health issues disappeared, and so did the animal possession that had tried to interfere with me.

My daughter was still very young at the time, and she often caught colds and felt sick. Seeing my husband and I doing the exercises, she tried to learn, too, and copied our movements. She became much healthier, too.

My husband’s migraines and arthritis also disappeared, and he became a Dafa practitioner as well.

One day, I looked at Master’s photo and asked, “Master, when can I do the exercises with other practitioners?”

Not long after, a young lady from our village who had married and moved elsewhere returned to visit her parents. After she heard that my husband and I were practicing Falun Gong, she took us to their village and introduced us to the assistant of their practice site. The assistant helped me obtain recordings of Master’s Fa teachings, other Dafa books, as well as an audiotape for the exercises. From that moment on, I felt I truly was a Dafa practitioner.

Later, by studying the Fa more, I understood that all my health problems and my suffering in this lifetime were karmic debts I had accrued by doing bad things in my previous lives. I thought: “All my misfortunes were caused by my own wrongdoings, so from now on, I will try to be a good person by following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and be kind to everyone.”

I used all my spare time to study the teachings and do the exercises. I also realized that I should help other villagers know how good Falun Dafa is.

As I held this thought, Master arranged for people to come to my place one after another to study the Fa and do the exercises. Later, my house became a practice site in the village.

Some people who were sick regained their health after doing the exercises, while others who used to drink, smoke or cause trouble mended their ways and turned over a new leaf. Troubled families became harmonious. They were concrete examples that Dafa teaches people to be good and kind and causes no harm at all.

Karmic Debts I Accumulated in My In-Laws’ House in the Early Days

My in-laws didn’t contribute much toward my wedding, as they were facing financial difficulties at the time. My mother said that if my family helped a bit, the situation would improve in a few years’ time.

My father-in-law was in poor health, and my mother-in-law earned a little money breeding livestock. They had already spent quite a bit on the weddings of my husband’s two elder brothers, so life was pretty tough for them at that time.

I understood their situation and didn’t mind that they couldn’t spend much on my wedding to their son.

My husband’s uncle promised before the wedding that we would not have to share the family’s debts, so they would not spend much on our wedding, either.

But as soon as I married into their family, my mother-in-law demanded money from my husband, saying we had to repay the debts left over from our wedding. My husband was so stressed out that he shed tears and kept sighing all day long.

My second sister-in-law (the wife of my husband’s second elder brother) later came to ask us to give her back the money they’d given us for a wedding gift, saying our mother-in-law told her to ask for it. It was just too much to bear, and I refused to give the money back.

One day, my mother-in-law came to our place and ordered my husband to hitch up the cart and sell the soybeans we had grown to repay the debts incurred from our wedding.

Because my mother-in-law was creating a big scene, my husband reluctantly hitched up the cart to go sell the soybeans. I couldn’t take it anymore, grabbed a knife, and ran out of house. My husband stopped me, but I was so angry I returned to my parents’ home.

My younger brother, who was going to university, happened to be home. He told me to calm down and be more understanding of my husband’s difficult situation. He also asked me to accept the debts.

I thought about it and took his advice. My brother drove me back to my husband, and we agreed to repay half of the debts. From then on, I harbored a deep-seated hatred for my husband’s family.

We couldn’t afford any herbicide that year, so we had to clear out the weeds in the fields by hand. As we also grew vegetables, it was pretty hard to manage it all.

One day, my mother-in-law asked my husband to help out in her fields. I told her that we were already too busy and suggested that she ask her youngest son to help out since he was home on holiday.

I had no idea what she said to her son, but my younger brother-in-law soon came to my place and started swearing at and hitting me. I was so angry that I ran straight back to my parents’ but couldn’t find anyone as they were all out working in the fields.

Frustrated and angry, I found a foot-long metal awl and sharpened it to a fine point, intending to take revenge on my brother-in-law.

When my family members returned, my brother took my mom and me back to my home in a four-wheeled farm vehicle—my mom wanted to have a chat with my mother-in-law in an attempt to improve the situation.

However, my younger brother-in-law was still very angry and shouted at my mother, “Yes, I hit her. So what!” He also cursed at her. My brother found it hard to take and fought with him.

Seizing the moment, I took out the awl and stabbed him from behind. As a result he ended up in the hospital for a while. After that, his health deteriorated, and we hated each other even more.

Before I began practicing Falun Dafa, I harbored deep hatred for my in-laws. When my daughter was born, I even refused to name her according to the family naming tradition, insisting that I would bring a change to the family.

My husband became very timid and watched everything he said. He said to me once, “I don’t know why I’m so scared of you.” I was indeed very brusque and domineering at that time.

We later moved to my parents’ village, because I refused to have anything to do with my in-laws. My heart was filled with jealousy and hatred, and I only focused on how terrible and hateful they were. As time went by, this all took a terrible toll on my health.

A hospital checkup showed that I had a cerebral vascular malformation and the walls of my blood vessels had also deteriorated with age, making surgery impossible.

Desperate for a cure, I sought help from all sorts of spiritual healers and fortune-tellers, filling my house with all kinds of strange objects, which eventually took control of me.

In the end, there was hardly any healthy part in my body left, and it felt like the only thing I could do was wait to die.

Dafa Showed Me the Way to Let Go of Grievances and Resentment

My outlook on the world changed completely after I began practicing Falun Dafa, and my thinking also took a new direction. By studying the Fa, I began to understand that the conflicts I had with my husband’s family were all karmic debts I owed for doing bad things in my countless previous lives. I needed to resolve them through kindness. I began to treat my mother-in-law with sincere kindness.

I Will Take Care of You

Even though we don’t live in the same village, I provide my mother-in-law with most of her daily necessities, while she gives all her old-age benefits to my younger brother-in-law, who is in poor health and still in debt.

Once, when I visited her, she said to me in tears, “I don’t have any money now. My youngest son took it all. I must go and get it back.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you. He is in poor health, and we’ll help him, too,” I said to her.

After that, I began to buy her grain, coal, and all the other daily necessities. I also visited her regularly with fruit, nice snacks, and so on. Sometimes, I would cook her nice meals and put them in the fridge for her convenience.

One day when my daughter paid her a visit, she said she wanted to live with us and to get a room ready for her. I had suggested it earlier, but she refused at the time. After she changed her mind, we set up a comfortable room for her.

After she moved in, she became reluctant to let us go out. If I went out for any length of time, she would argue with my husband. I later discovered that she told her friends in the village that she’d moved in because she wanted to interfere with our practicing Falun Dafa. Outwardly, she claimed she was worried that we might be persecuted again.

I realized that it was evil elements attempting to use family ties to interfere with us clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa.

I said to her, “I would have been dead a long time ago if I had not practiced Falun Dafa, and I would not have brought you to our house to care for you. I’ve been taking care of you for so many years all because I’ve learned from Falun Dafa to be a good person and to be considerate of others by following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

I took great care of my mother-in-law and clarified the truth to her gradually. After I played Master’s Fa teachings and the Nine Commentaries on the Community Party to her, the change in her behavior was remarkable.

When relatives and friends came to our house, she would say, “Falun Dafa is very good. You should all practice it! You should also recite ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!”

Dealing With My Grievances

The whole process also exposed many of my human attachments, so that I was able to rectify myself guided by the Fa.

My husband and I also helped his younger brother a lot. We paid the rent on his land and bought him seeds and agricultural chemicals. I also told him to forget about the money he owed us.

Both my husband and I were persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for our faith in Falun Dafa. Because we also had to pay for our daughter’s education, we weren’t well-off either at that time.

Later, my husband was once again sentenced to jail because he refused to give up his faith. Before then, my mother-in-law had borrowed money at a high interest rate for my younger brother-in-law, but she made my husband sign the agreement so that we would be responsible for repaying the debt in the future.

Everyone in my mother-in-law’s family knew about this—except me. Meanwhile, I continued taking care of my mother-in-law and visited my husband in jail every month. I could not have managed to do all this without Master’s protection and guidance of the Fa.

My husband told me about signing the agreement for the loan after he was released from jail. (By then, my younger brother-in-law had already passed away a year earlier). The news really stirred up a lot of resentment in me for my mother-in-law. I thought she was being really unreasonable.

Meanwhile, she also tried to drive a wedge between my husband and me. Each time my husband came back from visiting her, he would treat me coldly.

My second sister-in-law told me that, while my husband was in jail, he often asked her how I was treating my mother-in-law. She assured him I was treating her very well, even better than when he was home.

However, it turned out that my mother-in-law had spoken poorly of me to my husband behind my back to vent her frustrations.

I felt so wronged that tears streamed down my face. For years, I had been the only one taking care of the whole family while worrying about my husband in jail and trying my best to balance various relationships in the family. I spared no expense and poured so much of my heart and energy into caring for them, only to end up with this.

I was utterly heartbroken. For a while I struggled at the level of everyday people.

However, I’m a Dafa practitioner, and when I calmed down I thought: “Maybe I owed them a lot in my previous lifetime, and I’m only paying back the karmic debts I owed them now. After all, my mother-in-law is getting old and my younger brother-in-law has already passed away. How sad he would have felt to still owe money! In fact, the person my mother-in-law borrowed money from is also an old man.”

I realized that I should have the well-being of all sentient beings at heart and do my best to save them, that I should certainly let go of such trivial things.

I said to my husband, “Let’s sell our land to pay off the debts. If that’s not enough, I will make up the rest.”

Falun Dafa enabled me to let go of my resentment for my mother-in-law and to pay the debts she owed. It’s Master who helped me recognize my poor conduct, rectify myself, and clear out those bad elements of resentment inside me so that I can assimilate with the universal principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and truly become a good person who is always considerate of others.

My Second Sister-in-law Also Changed

My selfless actions also had a positive impact on other people.

My mother-in-law started talking about wanting to live by herself again but wanted me to take care of her like in the past, so that she could give her land, her old-age benefits, and her money all to her daughter.

My elder brother-in-law didn’t agree with her plan, while my second sister-in-law wanted to farm her land. In the end, my mother-in-law decided to spend one month at a time living with each of her sons and their families.

Considering her age, it was decided that she would spend two months at each of her sons’ household to reduce the hassle of having to move so frequently.

When my mother-in-law was staying with us, I would prepare fruit, milk, snacks and traditional pastries, as well as water for her in the morning. In the afternoon, I would put out fresh food with a peeled apple and neatly cut mango.

When she was living with her second son, because people do things differently, my sister-in-law didn’t take care of her like I did. So, my mother-in-law began to find fault with her and even got into an arguments with her. My second sister-in-law felt deeply wronged and very upset.

I went to see them after hearing what happened and found out that my mother-in-law wanted her daughter-in-law to treat her the way I did. So I patiently showed my sister-in-law how I prepared meals for our mother-in-law step by step.

When I visited my mother-in-law again, she was really happy, because her food and daily routine were organized the same way as when she was in my place.

As a Dafa practitioner, when I conduct myself by the Fa principles, the environment and people around me also change for the better.

I Chose Compassion

When it was our turn to look after my mother-in-law again, she said to me, “I don’t want to do it this way anymore. I want to go back and live in my own house. When I get too old to get up, then you can bring me to your place to take care of me. I will give all my money to my daughter’s son.”

I replied, “Mom, I’m not after your money or your land. If you stay with us, I will take good care of you. If you want to go home, I’m fine with that, too,” To my surprise, she looked rather unhappy, thinking I didn’t truly want her to stay with us.

In fact, I only wanted to let things take their natural course and not force anything. But my mother-in-law wouldn’t let it go. She cried, made a big fuss, and said many hurtful things to me.

At one point, I felt an overwhelming urge to argue with her, as if some kind of element was pressing on my head. I knew it was bad, so I begged Master to help me remove it, because I wanted to treat my mother-in-law with kindness and compassion.

Gradually, I sensed that the negative force that urged me to fight and argue with her began to dissolve and drift away.

Around lunchtime, my mother-in-law told me that she was hungry and wanted to eat, smiling at me like a kid. Over the next few days, she behaved very well and was very happy. I believe that Master has once again dissolved the resentment I held for my mother-in-law.

With Master’s help and the guidance of the Fa principles, I chose compassion— always doing my best in looking after my mother-in-law.

Cultivating Forbearance

Later, my mother-in-law kept asking me to treat her well and show her respect. I wondered what she wanted me to let go of now.

So, I started looking within and realized that I didn’t like being criticized and I liked to be praised. This is attachment to fame, and I had to let it go. At the same time, I needed to cultivate forbearance and the ability to endure hardship with strong willpower, so that I could truly live up to the standard of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and truly become a selfless being.

As I was thinking about this, I encountered a test. My mother-in-law has a piece of land that had been farmed by her second son’s family. One day, out of the blue, she said that she wanted to take it back and wanted us to farm it for her.

My husband and I tried to talk her out of it: “Let them have it. It’s your own son’s family.” But she insisted on taking the land back and wanted us to farm it for her.

“I can’t do this because it would affect the harmony between the two families,” I said to her.

When she heard that, she started swearing at me. I struggled to maintain my xinxing, thinking, “I’ve been treating you so well, yet you turn against me just like that. Isn’t this just taking advantage of a cultivator’s kindness and bullying me?”

I could feel something heavy weighing on my heart, and it felt very uncomfortable. However, I knew I mustn’t get angry and I must keep calm.

I tried to persuade my mother-in-law, but she simply wouldn’t listen and continued to make a fuss, accusing me of doing harmful things. I felt deeply wronged and somewhat confused. I even forgot to finish doing the things I normally did for her.

After I finished sending forth righteous thoughts after midnight, I thought I should look within and find the reason why I had those thoughts earlier. I started reciting “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” again and again, and realized that I had failed to endure and show forbearance. To practice forbearance, I must be tolerant and accepting, putting other people’s needs before my own, and be able to accept any unfair treatment without resentment.

Maybe I owed her such debts in my previous life, and this was the only way to pay them back. Wasn’t it a good thing? Why did I feel so unbalanced? It’s like I didn’t want to repay my karmic debts and improve myself. I even felt so angry. I failed on forbearance and wasn’t kind. If I truly had her best interests at heart, I should have been able to accept humiliation and unfair treatment without feeling wronged or resentful. Those negative thoughts and feelings were not my true self. They were false. I didn’t want them and I was determined to remove them through cultivation.

All of a sudden, I felt Master was right beside me, guiding me with the Fa principles. I became clearheaded and remembered what I needed to do for my mother-in-law. Quickly, I started to warm up her kang (brick bed), boiled water, and prepared some fruit that she liked. I felt so lighthearted, as if nothing had happened earlier. Once again, I truly felt the miraculous power of Dafa.

My Mother-in-Law Said, “Everyone Wants To Go to Heaven”

To be truly kind to my mother-in-law, I thought I should let her listen to Master’s Fa teachings and the Nine Commentaries to help awaken her original kind nature and to help clear out her bad thoughts and interference from other dimensions.

One day, she said that she would like to be a sincere, tolerant, and kind person like those she heard about on the recordings.

“That’s great, Mom! As long as you conduct yourself according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, you will certainly go to a nice place in the end. Master has told us that all lives were created in high level dimensions in the universe, but that we dropped to the human world because we turned bad. As long as we try to be good, we will be able to return to Heaven, to the new universe Master has created for us. Even if you are not a Dafa cultivaor, you can still be a sentient being in Heaven. But if one still believes in demons, animals, or other messy stuff, one will only go to Hell.”

“Well, everyone wants to go to Heaven,” my mother-in-law said, and we both burst out laughing.

Letting Go of the Fighting Mentality and Feeling Unbalanced

One morning, when I called my mother-in-law for breakfast, she said, “Now that you practice Falun Gong, you must be nice to me and take good care of me, so that I’ll tell my son to treat you a bit better, too.”

What she said stirred up my fighting mentality again and really put me off balance. For many years, my mother-in-law said many bad things about me behind my back. On the surface, she seemed to be caring for her son, but in reality, it was no less than driving a wedge between my husband and me.

In the early years of our marriage, my husband wasn’t interested in taking care of any household responsibilities and expected me to handle everything. As a woman, I often felt lost with no one to rely on, but he did not offer much support. Every time he came back from chatting with his mom, he was pretty rude to me.

Hearing what my mother-in-law just said to me, I felt deeply hurt inside, thinking, “For so many years, you kept causing trouble between your son and me, making life difficult for us as a couple. It’s only thanks to Falun Dafa that I was able to handle the situation in the best way. Had I not practiced Falun Dafa, I wouldn’t have you in my house even for a day, let alone take such good care of you.”

As I was silently complaining to myself, I suddenly stood up and asked myself, “What am I doing? These bad thoughts are not from my true self. How can I follow this line of thought? If what happens between my mother-in-law and me are karmic debts I owe her, then I should pay back the debts; if not, it’s all for me to improve my xinxing. It’s not my mother-in-law’s problem; she is actually helping me improve myself. I must rectify myself straight away.”

With this thought in mind, I calmed down, and my negative feelings for my mother-in-law also disappeared.

Resolving the Grievances and Resentment Between Me and My Younger Brother-in-law

Ever since I hurt my younger brother-in-law years ago, a deep rift of grievances and resentment had existed between us. After I became a practitioner, I felt a deep sense of remorse for what I did and tried to help him in any way I could. Still, he refused to forgive me and wouldn’t listen when I tried to clarify the truth to him about the persecution and Falun Dafa.

While my husband was unlawfully imprisoned for his faith in Falun Dafa, I took great care of my mother-in-law. In addition to paying for her daily necessities, I also washed her hair, gave her haircuts, and trimmed her finger and toe nails regularly. My younger brother-in-law noticed everything I did for his mom.

During those two years, I invited my younger brother-in-law and his wife to celebrate the New Year with us and bought them presents.

One year, I went to give them New Year’s gifts, as well as 1000 yuan for them to buy coal for the winter. At mealtime, he said to his wife. “Why can’t you do things like your sister-in-law? Just follow her, and do whatever she does for my mother.”

Indeed, after that his wife changed a lot and now tries her best to take care of our mother-in-law the way I do.

Once when my mother-in-law visited them, my younger brother-in-law insisted that his wife wash her hair. Although my mother-in-law told them not to bother as I always did that, they insisted. Later, when I arrived, he happily shared that his wife had washed his mother’s hair just as I did.

From then on, whenever I saw him, I took the opportunity to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and expose the crimes of the CCP.

One day, he said, “Sister-in-law, you always say the CCP is bad, but the CCP still gives us money.” Knowing what was troubling him, I said, “The CCP doesn’t farm, nor does it run any factories. Instead, the corrupt CCP officials are squandering the hard-earned money of us ordinary working people who pay taxes!

“Nowadays, corruption among the CCP officials is rampant. Tainted milk powder, gutter oil, and other food-safety scandals are everywhere. Chinese society has been ruined by the CCP. The taxpayers’ money that we ordinary people have worked so hard to earn is being embezzled by corrupt CCP officials. It is the people who are their true providers, not the other way round,” I said.

I continued to share the truth to him, and eventually, he also began to denounce the CCP. Then, he took out the Falun Dafa keepsake I had given him earlier and said, “Now, I truly believe Falun Dafa is good.”

“Sister-in-law, for some reason, I used to think very little of you and didn’t want to even talk to you. Let’s put the past behind us and get along well from now on,” he said sincerely.

I felt deeply grateful to Master for helping me resolve years of grievances and resentment between my younger brother-in-law and me.

My Uncle Also Quit the CCP

Despite my persistent attempts to clarify the truth to my uncle, he refused to quit the CCP. In an attempt to help him, my husband even installed a New Tang Dynasty Television satellite dish for his family.

One year, we contracted to farm a few hectares of land from my uncle. It happened that land subsidies were offered that year, and the production brigade asked my uncle to report how much land he was farming.

That fall, when my husband went to collect the subsidies from him, he said that he hadn’t reported two hectares because he had cleared and turned it into farmland himself, and he didn’t want to pay the associated fees. Disheartened, my husband returned home rather upset.

I remained calm and reminded myself that my uncle was a sentient being to be saved, and I had to let go of the attachment to personal gain.

I went to my uncle’s house and he showed me the document for the land subsidies, saying, “This is all that I got from the land subsidy. I didn’t report the land I cleared, so there is no subsidy for it.”

“Don’t worry, Uncle. I’m a Falun Dafa practitioner. Our Master told us to be good people by following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and to be kind to others. Just give me what you got from the production brigade. Don’t worry about the land you didn’t report. It’s nothing.”

He then relaxed, so I said, “Uncle, let me help you quit the CCP so that you can stay away from danger and harm.”

“Sure, you can help me quit,” my uncle said without any hesitation. I felt so happy for him! I was also deeply grateful to Master for the arrangement so that I could let go of personal gain and treat my uncle with kindness. When people see how wonderful Falun Dafa is, they are inspired to do what is right and gain a bright future.
