(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Yuju, 62, in Pingdu City, Shandong Province, was sentenced to four years and was fined 20,000 yuan on September 17, 2026, because she practices Falun Gong.

Ms. Li was arrested on the afternoon of January 7, 2026, while studying Falun Gong’s teachings at another practitioner’s home. Officers from the Tonghe Police Station and the Taishan Road Police Station raided her home at 7 that night. They held her at the Pingdu City Police Department and transferred her to the Taishan Road Police Station the next day. She was later moved to the Tonghe Police Station.

The police took her to the hospital for a physical exam on January 9 and put her in the Qingdao City First Detention Center afterwards (located in Pudong Town, Jimo City). Qingdao oversees Jimo City and Pingdu City.

Mr. Li was issued a formal arrest warrant on January 22. Prosecutor Zhang Mengyun from the Pingdu City Procuratorate indicted her at an unknown time.

The Pingdu City Court held a hearing of the case on January 1. Ms. Li’s brother represented her as a non-lawyer defender. He asked prosecutor Zhang to present the legal basis for his sister’s indictment. Zhang was unable to show any evidence.

A second hearing was held on July 9. Prosecutor Zhang cited some Falun Gong materials as evidence against Ms. Li. When her brother asked where the materials were from Zhang did not answer.

Zhang also played some surveillance video footage, which did not show Ms. Li committing any crimes. Her brother submitted some additional materials to the court after the hearing but did not receive a response.

Judge Cui Jindou sentenced Ms. Li to four years on September 17. Her brother filed an appeal on her behalf. He also filed complaints against judge Cui, prosector Zhang, and Li Wenqing (chief prosecutor) with nearly 100 agencies at various government levels, including the Supreme People’s Procuratorate and the Supreme People’s Court.

Judge Cui twice talked with Ms. Li’s brother and said that he didn’t call the shots in Ms. Li’s sentencing.

Falun Gong Restored Her Health

Ms. Li was sickly since she was young. She struggled to walk due to leg weakness. Her neurasthenia made her listless. After she took up Falun Gong in May 1997, all her symptoms disappeared, and she also mended her relationship with her parents-in-law and sisters-in-law. She took meticulous care of her 94-year-old mother-in-law and never complained when the elderly woman soiled her clothes or bed.

Ms. Li’s arrest devastated her 94-year-old mother-in-law, as well as her own mother (who is nearly 90 years old).
