(Minghui.org) On September 28, 2026, the US Senate passed the Falun Gong and Victims of Forced Organ Harvesting Protection Act (S. 4009). On October 2, Nina Shea, Director of the Hudson Institute’s Center for Religious Freedom, stated that the Senate’s passage of this bill marks a significant beginning for the United States to end its willful blindness to the Chinese Communist Party’s practice of live organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience.

In an October 2 interview with Minghui.org, Ms. Shea described the recent developments on the bill as “very exciting.”
She said, “We’ve worked with Falun Gong for over a decade to get Washington [to pay] attention to the abomination of forced organ harvesting under the CCP regime. Finally there’s Senate and House acknowledgment that [live organ harvesting] is really being carried out and, moreover, that the American transplant community is part of the problem, particularly in training and partnering with transplant surgeons in China.
“All of us who care about moral and responsible medicine and American exceptionalism owe a debt of gratitude to the Members of Congress who got the bill this far and to Falun Gong practitioners for courageously persisting in this effort. This should put all complicit medical schools, hospitals and foundations on notice that their reputations are at stake.”
Ms. Shea believes the Senate’s passage of this bill “is the beginning of the end of America’s willful blindness to this medical atrocity.”
Greg Scarlatoiu, President & CEO of the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, also told Minghui.org that the Senate’s unanimous passage of the Falun Gong and Victims of Forced Organ Harvesting Protection Act (S.4009) was a triumph for human rights defenders.
“It is truly heartwarming to see that Senators [Ted] Cruz and [Jeffrey Alan] Merkley carry the torch of righteousness, religious freedom, and humanity. It is heartwarming to know that we Americans and our elected representatives stand united when it comes to protecting human rights and justice,” Mr. Scarlatoiu stated.
