(Minghui.org) A man in Pinggu District, Beijing, is set to stand trial on October 9, 2026, for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Liu Yaping, around 56, was arrested on May 13, 2026, while out and about. The Pingdu District Court scheduled a hearing for October 9, 2026. He is awaiting trial at the Pinggu District Detention Center.
Mr. Liu’s latest arrest was preceded by multiple harassment episodes from the police between April 2025 and April 2026.
An officer from the Yuyang Police Station knocked on his door on April 24, 2025. He didn’t let him in. At around 7 p.m. on August 6, officer Hao Aimin from the same police station led an auxiliary police officer and a woman (likely from the local community committee) to his home. He again refused to open the door.
Seven officers from the Pinggu District Domestic Security Office and the Daxingzhuang Police Station, including Zhang Zhijian, Wang Haizhen, and Xing Qiming, broke into Mr. Liu’s home on December 8, 2025. They raided his home and arrested him.
Mr. Liu was interrogated at the Pinggu District Case Processing Center and transferred to the Shunyi District Lockup the next day to serve a nine-day administrative detention. He was released on December 18, 2025.
Officer Hao and an auxiliary officer showed up at Mr. Liu’s door around 9 a.m. on January 12, 2026. He didn’t let them in, and they called him, questioning where he worked, what places he visited, and whether he still practiced Falun Gong. They also questioned if his wife, Ms. Zhang Yuhong, was home.
On April 29, 2026, the police knocked on the door again. He didn’t allow them in. They called him three times and his wife once to harass them.
Before 2025, Mr. Liu was repeatedly arrested for his faith and served two years of forced labor between 2009 and 2011. He filed a civil lawsuit against the Pinggu District Board of Education on July 26, 2024, after they suspended his pay and later terminated him as a middle-school teacher. The Pinggu District Court heard the case on December 10, 2024, and ruled to dismiss it on January 21, 2025.
