(Minghui.org) A 50-year-old woman in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, was sentenced to three and a half years on June 24, 2026, for exposing the communist regime’s ongoing persecution of her faith, Falun Gong. Her brother was not allowed to visit her because he refused to verbally abuse the practice or its founder, as ordered by the prison authorities.
Ms. Lin Jinli, born on November 7, 1975, was arrested on August 10, 2025, while vacationing in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. She bought a cell phone there and sent two text messages about Falun Gong. The Yangzhou police tracked her down and arrested her while she was still in Yangzhou. Over 10 officers later traveled over 1,200 miles to Harbin to ransack her home.
Ms. Lin was sentenced to three and a half years by the Guangling District Court in Yangzhou, after two hearings on January 27 and June 2, 2026. She was admitted to the Nantong Women’s Prison in Jiangsu in late September 2026.
Ms. Lin’s family was notified in October 2026 that the 14th of every month is the visitation day for Falun Gong practitioners. When her brother, who also lives in Heilongjiang Province, took the train to the prison on October 14, he was ordered to provide a letter from his local police station to verify that he didn’t practice Falun Gong himself. He explained that this requirement was never mentioned in the visitation notice. The prison receptionist replied, “If you can’t provide the letter, then you must verbally abuse Falun Gong or its founder. Only then can we process the visitation request for you.”
Ms. Lin’s brother argued that this request was outrageous. The receptionist made a phone call, and two guards came out. They too insisted that he badmouth Falun Gong or they wouldn’t know whether he had a “correct” attitude towards Falun Gong.
Ms. Lin’s brother countered that no law ever criminalizes Falun Gong in China and that it’s his legal right to visit his sister. He emphasized that the prison could not order him to verbally abuse anyone as a prerequisite for the visit.
Unable to refute him, the guards began to ignore him. Eventually, he left the prison without seeing his sister.
