(Minghui.org) A woman in Tianshui City, Gansu Province completed a two-year prison sentence in December 2025 for her faith in Falun Gong, only to be detained again months later.
Ms. Liu Bingbing was arrested at home by Maiji District Domestic Security Office agents on May 27, 2026. They put her in the Qinzhou District Detention Center, where she went on a hunger strike in protest. The guards tied up her limbs and force-fed her.
Ms. Liu previously suffered from more than ten diseases, including postpartum depression, allergic asthma, tuberculosis, hydronephrosis, and renal failure. She turned to Falun Gong in 2015 when nothing else helped. She gradually made a full recovery and was able to enjoy life again. Her positive experience with Falun Gong motivated her to raise awareness of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ongoing persecution of the life-transforming practice.
Ms. Liu was arrested in March 2021, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was detained for 15 days, during which time she went on a seven-day hunger strike.
The Maiji District Domestic Security Office, the Shetang Police Station, and the local government and street committee continued harassing Ms. Liu after her release. They went to her husband’s workplace many times, ordering him to work with them to stop his wife from practicing Falun Gong. They threatened to deny him promotion or even get him fired if he refused to comply.
The police also installed a surveillance camera facing Ms. Liu’s home to monitor her around the clock. They sent people to her then-11-year-old child’s school to talk to the principal and home room teacher to learn more about the child’s “home situation.” A grid manager (China divides each region into multiple grids and has grid managers who monitor citizens) was also assigned to watch Ms. Liu.
A woman deceived Ms. Liu into opening the door at around 9 a.m. on July 25, 2023, by claiming to be checking the natural gas line. The woman and three men barged in and announced themselves as being officers from the Qinzhou District Police Department. None of them showed their IDs or indicated their names or job titles. They raided the home and arrested Ms. Liu, stunning her 13-year-old child.
The belongings confiscated from Ms. Liu’s home included dozens of Falun Gong books, one computer, two cell phones, a hat, a shirt, and her purse which contained over 3,000-yuan cash, keys, and a bus pass. She refused to answer questions while being interrogated at the police department.
The police put Ms. Liu in a local detention center at around 5 p.m. When a prosecutor deposed her, she reported the police’s illegal detention of her but never received a formal response. She was released on bail after 16 days of criminal detention.
On August 23, 2023, the police noted from the surveillance camera that Ms. Liu was not home. They followed her husband’s car to her home and forced him to open the door. After searching the home, they didn’t find anything they were looking for. They forced Ms. Liu’s husband to take them to the couple’s second residence, where they seized several Falun Gong books and a pair of her shoes.
Officer Yao Wentao called Ms. Liu’s husband on September 1, 2023, saying they needed her to report to them for interrogation. She called Yao back and urged him to stop persecuting Falun Gong.
Six days later Ms. Liu’s husband was deceived into reporting to the Qinzhou District Police Department to “pick up the 3,000-yuan confiscated from his wife.” Instead of getting the money back, he was interrogated “on his wife’s behalf.”
Ms. Liu was then indicted and sentenced to two years in prison. Details of her prosecution remain unknown. She was released in December 2025, only to be arrested again five months later.
