(Minghui.org) Minghui.org previously reported that 11 cities in Shandong Province have escalated the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners since the beginning of 2026. One report mentioned that over 20 practitioners in Qingdao City were arrested in the first two months of 2026.
New information has emerged that at least 10 of the arrested Qingdao practitioners live in the same Jimo District and were taken into custody on January 12-13. While most were released hours later, at least five remain in detention. Below is information about the confirmed cases.
Two Arrested on January 12
Ms. Gu Lihong was arrested on January 12. Over ten police officers harassed her mother, who is in her 80s and lives alone. Another practitioner surnamed Zhao was also arrested on the same day. It is unclear where the two practitioners are being held.
Three Arrested on January 13
Ms. Yang Chunxiang was arrested at noon on January 13, just as she stepped outside her office building. Two male officers and a female officer from the Liujiazhuang Police Station ordered her to show her ID. They seized her cell phone and handcuffed her. They told Ms. Yang’s family that she’d be released after 10 days of administrative detention at the Qingdao City Second Detention Center. When her family went to pick her up on January 23, they were told that her status had been changed to criminal detention.
Ms. Yu Aihua, 63, was arrested on January 13, and released around 6 p.m. She was taken back into custody the next morning, after she was deceived into going to the local police station to pick up her cell phone confiscated the day before. She was taken straight to the Qingdao City Second Detention Center.
Ms. Meng Huiling, 64, was also arrested on January 13 and put in the Qingdao City Second Detention Center. Her husband (name unknown), also a Falun Gong practitioner, died years ago as a result of the persecution.
