Ms. Jiang Yongqin

While serving a five-year term for her faith, Falun Gong, Ms. Jiang Yongqin’s leg was broken while she was tortured in September 2025. She was also diagnosed with late stage lung cancer. She was extremely weak and emaciated, and had mobility issues. Instead of notifying her family immediately, the prison authorities waited until she was on the verge of death before they released her on parole in November.

The Jilin City, Jilin Province, resident, had a high fever when she returned home and she was rushed to the hospital. She was also constantly harassed by the local authorities who attempted to make her renounce Falun Gong.

Ms. Jiang’s condition suddenly worsened on the morning of January 29, 2026 (exact date to be investigated). Her family called an ambulance but she died while she was being transported to the hospital.

Ms. Jiang’s passing capped her decades of persecution for upholding her faith, Falun Gong. Minghui.org has reported extensively on her persecution. Below is a quick recap.

Ms. Jiang received her bachelor’s degree from Jilin University in Jilin Province, and master’s degree from Lanzhou University in Gansu Province. She landed a teaching job at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in Zhejiang Province after she graduated. Because she raised awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong, she was arrested on September 26, 2009.

Her computers and cell phone were confiscated. She was later sentenced to three years and she was sent to the Zhejiang Province Women’s Prison in April 2010. During the seven months she was at the Hangzhou City Detention Center, she was forced to make clothes and solder surface mounted chip components (placing chips on tiny pads of electronic devices).

After she was transferred to prison, Ms. Jiang was forced to wear an inmates’ uniform. The guards kept her handcuffed and shackled. They also forced her to work without pay, including processing packages and making electric blankets.

Ms. Jiang was released in March 2012, only to face constant harassment by the local police and 610 Office agents. Her employer also terminated her for her faith, even though she had been a high-performing lecturer during her nine-year tenure there (she won multiple awards herself and coached her students to win second place in a national design competition).

Ms. Jiang was arrested again in 2015 when she was still living in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The police raided her home and confiscated over 40 Falun Gong books, over 30 DVDs, a computer and a hard drive. She was held at the Hangzhou City Detention Center for an unknown period of time.

The police arrested Ms. Jiang on October 10, 2017. They threatened to send her to a brainwashing center for a month, before the Chinese Communist Party’s 19th Congress.

Ms. Jiang was harassed in 2019 in Hangzhou. She later moved back to Jilin City, only to be harassed by the residential committee staffers in 2021 during the “Zero-Out” campaign aimed to force every Falun Gong practitioner on the government’s blacklist to renounce their faith.

Ms. Jiang was arrested on June 12, 2022. While in custody, she was sexually assaulted by the police, force-fed wasabi oil through her nose and had lit cigarettes placed into her nostrils.

The Changyi District Court held a hearing of Ms. Jiang’s case on June 14, 2023. Her lawyer wasn’t allowed to represent her and the judge adjourned the session in just 20 minutes.

Ms. Jiang was sentenced to five years on January 24, 2024, and was sent to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison. She was tortured to critical condition and only then did the prison release her on parole in November 2025. She died two months later.
