(Minghui.org) Minghui.org previously reported on the death of a Changde City, Hunan Province man while he was serving an eight-year prison term for his faith in Falun Gong. New information has emerged regarding details about the abuse Mr. Liu Chaoyang suffered in prison.
Mr. Liu, born in 1976, was an employee of the Chengde City Roads and Bridges Company. He took up Falun Gong in 1997 and held firm to his faith after the communist regime started persecuting his faith in July 1999. He was arrested multiple times in the years that followed. His last arrest was on May 12, 2017, followed by an eight-year prison sentence.
Mr. Liu was admitted to the Wangling Prison (located in Wangling Town, You County, Hunan Province) on October 23, 2018, and put in the orientation center first. He refused to admit guilt for practicing Falun Gong, and the guards handcuffed his hands behind his back. He was unable to eat with his hands and had to eat from the food bowl. He struggled to use the restroom and could only sleep on his side at night. Even his cellmates thought the torture was too extreme and pleaded for the guards to stop. The guards finally relented after 19 days, but they cuffed Mr. Liu’s hands in front of him for another 15 days before transferring him to the tenth division (also known as the intensive training division).
Five inmates were assigned to monitor Mr. Liu at the tenth division. Pei Yimin (a fraudster), Huang Weimin (a drug dealer), Huang Xiaojiang (a burglar), and Yi, were among the monitors. During a meeting, Pei bragged, “Liu Chaoyang was sitting on a small stool. I kicked him to the ground and stomped on his neck.”
Guard Tan Ming once shocked Mr. Liu for long hours. He died in March 2021, at the age of 45.
Mr. Liu was not the only practitioner who died as a result of abuse in Wangling Prison. A few others were also confirmed to have died while serving time there, including Mr. Wang Yuelai, Mr. Pan Jianjun, and Ms. Wang Guilin. Additionally, some practitioners died shortly after being released from the prison, including Mr. Li Dianming, Mr. Li Muduo, Mr. Tan Huidong, Mr. Lyu Songming (also translated as Lu Songming), Mr. Chen Yiyuan, and Mr. Liao Songlin.
