(Minghui.org) Minghui.org previously reported on the death of an 83-year-old man in Yunyang County, Chongqing, while he was serving an unknown term for his faith in Falun Gong.
New information has emerged that his name was actually Liu Xinggui, not Liu Xingui as previously reported. Additionally, he was repeatedly targeted and jailed once prior to his latest prison sentence. Below is what is now known.
Mr. Liu was home on March 28, 2002, when the police broke in and confiscated his Falun Gong books, informational materials, and cash. He was interrogated at the police station for 24 hours before being put in a prison to await prosecution.
The police fined Mr. Liu 5,000 yuan and extorted an additional 10,000 yuan from him before releasing him. The prison forced him to pay over 600 yuan in food expenses.
Mr. Liu faced constant harassment and surveillance after he returned home. His wife was unable to cope and developed a mental disorder. She eventually became incapacitated and incontinent. Mr. Liu took loving care of her and often got up in the middle of the night to change her soiled clothes and clean her.
To avoid further persecution, Mr. Liu and his wife moved to Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, about 200 miles away.
Mr. Liu, his daughter, and his niece went shopping on November 5, 2008, unaware that they had been followed by several officers. The police found Falun Gong materials on him and arrested all three of them. His daughter was released hours later, and his niece the next day.
Mr. Liu was put in the Jinhua Brainwashing Center in Chengdu City. He was later given an unknown prison term.
It is unclear when Mr. Liu was last arrested and sentenced to his second prison term or how long his sentence was. Minghui.org managed to confirm that he was moved from the Yongchuan Prison’s group of newly admitted inmates to cell six in the Tenth Division in late March 2023.
Because Mr. Liu held firm to his faith, he was forced to sit still on a small stool for long hours every day. His health quickly declined, and he could not even sit up. He was admitted to the prison hospital and died there a month later around May 4, 2023.
