(Minghui.org) A married couple in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, Mr. Tang Zhiwei and his wife, Ms. Liu Xuemei, are set to stand trial on May 9, 2026, because they practice Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

According to an eyewitness, in late June 2025, two young men wearing backpacks parked their motorcycles outside the couple’s apartment building. A black sedan soon pulled up and two middle-aged men stepped out of it. The four men looked around and talked among themselves. One of the middle-aged men took pictures of the building before leaving with the other three men.

The Meijiang District Police Department dispatched eight cruisers and three firetrucks to the couple’s home on the night of July 7, 2025. They refused to open the door. The police left but kept them under close surveillance.

As soon as the couple stepped outside their apartment complex on October 12, 2025, they were seized by officers who were waiting outside. Their home was raided, and their laptop, Falun Gong books, and informational materials were confiscated.

The police monitored the couple for a long time before the June 2025 harassment. Their family-owned clothing store was frequented by strangers who were not customers. There were suspicious cars and people outside the store all the time. The couple felt they had no choice and finally closed the shop. Unknown cars were also often seen parked in their apartment complex.

The Meijiang District Procuratorate issued former arrest warrants for the couple on November 17, 2025, before transferring the case to the Meixian District Procuratorate.

The Meixian District Court scheduled a hearing for March 9, 2026. The couple are awaiting trial at the Meizhou City Detention Center.
