(Minghui.org) A woman in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province developed severe medical problems after being tortured in jail for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Tian Xiumei was arrested by Xijie Police Station officers on March 29, 2024 for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was sentenced to three years and two months on September 12, 2024 by the Liaozhong District Court.
Ms. Tian was admitted to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on February 21, 2025, and assigned to the 12th Division the next day. There, she was forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong every morning and then ordered to write thought reports every afternoon. She refused to comply, as she was not a criminal. She also defied the order to take the prison’s “internal tests” to evaluate her “understanding of the persecution.”
In retaliation, guards Zhang Dan and Qiu incited the inmates to torture Ms. Tian. They poured cold water into her shoes, exposed her to the cold weather, starved her, and woke her up every five minutes at night.
The prison also denied Ms. Tian’s family visits and didn’t allow her to buy daily necessities or extra food. The inmates monitored her closely around the clock and didn’t allow her to talk to other jailed Falun Gong practitioners.
Due to the abuses, Ms. Tian developed severe diabetes. Her head shook uncontrollably, and her legs were severely swollen. She was taken to the hospital division and is still being ordered to renounce Falun Gong.
