(Minghui.org) A 76-year-old woman in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, is scheduled to stand trial after the Chinese New Year (February 17, 2026), for her faith in Falun Gong.
The Xihu District Court notified Ms. Xiao Genxiang in December 2025 to pick up her indictment. She refused to comply, and her daughter was summoned to sign the indictment on her behalf.
Ms. Xiao’s ordeal stemmed from her arrest on October 9, 2024. She was put in a brainwashing center and lost 26 pounds in just ten days. Four other local practitioners, including Ms. Zhang Xianmei, around 72, Ms. Shi Xiurong, around 72, Ms. Xu Julian, around 68, and Ms. Qiu Deying, around 65, were also arrested that day and held at the same brainwashing center for ten days.
All five women were released on bail on October 18, 2024. The Qingyunpu District Police Department submitted Ms. Xiao’s case to the Qingyunpu District Procuratorate.
While out on bail, Ms. Xiao was placed under close surveillance. Her daughter feared being implicated and kept her at home for four months. The police later ordered the younger woman to continue restraining her mother, and she refused to comply.
The police seized Ms. Xiao around October 2025, and drove her to the hospital for a physical exam. She was found to have extremely high blood pressure and was denied admission to the local detention center. The police had no choice but take her home.
The Qingyunpu District Procuratorate later transferred the case to the Xihu District Procuratorate, which indicted Ms. Xiao in December 2025 and forwarded her case to the Xihu District Court.
It is unclear when exactly Ms. Xiao’s court date is, but Ms. Zhang, Ms. Shi, Ms. Xu, and Ms. Qiu were all warned in December 2025 not to leave town during the Chinese New Year holiday season because they were to appear in court for Ms. Xiao’s trial after the holiday.
This is not the first time that Ms. Xiao has been targeted for her faith, which she took up in May 1997 and credits for curing her heart disease, arthritis, asthma, and stomach bleeding. She was previously arrested five times and give two forced labor terms totaling four years and nine months. She was tortured while detained, including being subjected to punitive forced-feeding and beatings.
