(Minghui.org) A 63-year-old woman in Qian’an City, Hebei Province, lost her appeal contesting a four-year prison sentence for raising awareness of the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of Falun Gong.
Ms. Guo Yuexia credits Falun Gong with freeing her from decades of suffering from rheumatic scleritis (a rare eye disease with only four known cases in China), chronic pharyngitis, kidney disease, heart disease, and gynecological issues. After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, she held firm to her faith and was repeatedly arrested both when she lived in Heilongjiang Province and after she moved to Hebei Province. Her latest prison sentence was preceded by a two-year sentence (September 2020 – September 2022).
Ms. Guo was mostly recently arrested on March 16, 2025, after being reported by three people for distributing Falun Gong informational materials in neighboring Lulong County (which is under the administration of Qinhuangdao City in Hebei Province). Officers from the Lulong County Police Department took her to the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center. Initially, her family was not permitted to visit her or deliver items for her. They could only make deposits into her commissary account. It is unclear whether they were later able to see her.
The Funing District Court in Qinhuangdao City heard Ms. Guo’s case on June 24, 2025. Her lawyer called her family in late August and told them that she had been sentenced to four years. Details of her indictment, trial, and sentencing remain to be investigated. It is also unclear when her appeal was denied. She was admitted to the Hebei Province Women’s Prison in Shijiazhuang City on January 2, 2026.
