(Minghui.org) The Jiangxi Province Prison (also known as Nanchang Prison) is the main prison for incarcerating male Falun Gong practitioners in the province. Those who remained firm in Falun Gong were beaten, shocked with electric batons, hung up by their wrists, held in solitary confinement, deprived of sleep, and forced to stand for long hours. Some were also forced to work without pay.
Below is a partial list of practitioners once held in that prison since the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999.
Five Deceased
At least five practitioners died as a result of being tortured in Jiangxi Province Prison, including Mr. Lan Hu, Mr. Yang Pingsheng, Mr. Luo Laiyang, Mr. Liu Leima, and Mr. Zhou Chuming.
Two Still Incarcerated
Mr. Liu Junhua is serving a 4.5-year term, which is due to end in April 2027. He was put in solitary confinement as soon as he was admitted to the prison in 2023, and his family was not allowed to visit him.
Mr. Luo Wenbin’s four-year term ends in March 2026. He was repeatedly put in solitary confinement for holding firm to his faith.
Seven Released
Mr. Li Yilong (also known as Li Yingyi) was sentenced to ten months in December 2023 but not ordered to serve time right away. The police took him back into custody on August 9, 2024, while he was at work. He was then admitted to the Jiangxi Province Prison. His wife was denied visits with him.
Mr. Yang Tingxian was sentenced to 18 months in prison on February 10, 2023. His latest prison sentence was preceded by two prior terms, including a one-year term (October 2018 to October 2019) in the Jiangxi Province Prison. He was arrested again in December 2019 and released on bail in February 2020. He was later given a second prison term of 1.5 years on July 10, 2020.
Mr. Zhang Wentao was arrested in July 2019 and sentenced to three years on October 22, 2020. He was admitted to the Jiangxi Province Prison, where he was forced to do slave labor and attend brainwashing sessions.
Mr. Cai Jianping went missing in September 2019. His family later learned that he had been sentenced to an unknown term in June 2021.
Mr. Yang Dexin served a four-year term and was released on July 29, 2023.
Mr. Huang Dongan, who has a master’s degree, was arrested in June 2018 while on a business trip. He was sentenced to a year and a half year in early November that year and admitted to the Jiangxi Province Prison. Back in 2001, he was sentenced to five years.
Mr. Sun Shilian was sentenced to three years and three months in August 2016 and was admitted to the Jiangxi Province Prison at the age of 77. At some point, he fell and broke several bones. The prison denied him family visits and refused to tell his family how he fell in the first place. He perviously served a 12-year term in another prison.
