A 74-year-old farmer in Xuchang County, Henan Province, died on February 10, 2025, after enduring years of persecution for his faith in Falun Gong.
Mr. Lu Shunmin credited Falun Gong for freeing him from the suffering of a slipped disc, stomach issues, and arthritis. After the communist regime began the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, he held firm to his faith and was thrice jailed for a total of 17 years. During each detention, he was subjected to various forms of torture, including electric shocks, savage beatings, and burning with cigarettes.
Mr. Lu was arrested in mid-May 2002 and sentenced to eight years. He was released in May 2010, only to be arrested again on July 17, 2011, and given another four years. His wife died while he was jailed.
After another arrest on August 1, 2016, Mr. Lu was sentenced to five years. He was released in September 2021 and faced constant harassment by the police. They arrested him at home around July 2022 and held him for 15 days. After that, he was put on residential surveillance for six months.
Mr. Lu had a stroke on February 10, 2025, two days before the Lantern Festival (which marks the end of the Chinese New Year holiday season), and died that day.
