(Minghui.org) Since the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, a 79-year-old woman in Kaifeng City, Henan Province, has been arrested more than ten times, resulting in three forced labor terms and two prison terms. After she was last released in late 2020, she has faced constant harassment by the authorities.

Ms. Wang Zanmei was given a 3.5-year labor camp term following an arrest on January 18, 2001. Due to her heart condition and disability in one leg from polio and a car accident, the labor camp refused to admit her. Yet the police still held her in custody and didn’t release her until May 21, 2001.

Ms. Wang was arrested again on October 17, 2003, and given an unknown labor camp term. The labor camp again refused to admit her, and she was released shortly after. Following another arrest on December 6, 2005, she was given one and a half years of forced labor. During her detention, she was constantly beaten, verbally abused, and deprived of sleep.

Within six months of Ms. Wang’s release, her mother and husband passed away, having succumbed to the mental distress of the persecution.

Ms. Wang was arrested yet another time on June 20, 2009, and later sentenced to three and a half years. She endured ongoing torture at the Xinxiang Women’s Prison and was released on December 20, 2012.

She was arrested one more time, on November 30, 2017, and was given another three years. She served time at the Xinxiang Women’s Prison. After she was released on November 30, 2020, Ms. Wang still faced constant harassment.

Below is Ms. Wang’s own account of the harassment she has suffered in recent years.

“One day in 2022, several officers, including Xu Menglin, of the Qi County Police Station, broke into my home and seized my portrait of Master Li (the founder of Falun Gong). They returned the next day and took photos of me against my will. Then they interrogated me and printed out the interrogation record with the computer and printer they had brought in with them. I refused to sign, despite the pressure. A few days later, they came again to harass me, and threatened to detain me for 15 days. I still refused to sign anything.

“On November 16, 2023, Xu, Yang Ming, and two others from the Qi County Police Station broke into my home again. They stole the memory card from my media player when I wasn’t looking. The next day, they returned with a computer and a printer. They questioned me again and ordered me to sign the interrogation record. They came back four days later and threatened to detain me for 15 days.

“On June 25, 2024, police chief Chen Zhenguo, Xu, and two others broke into my home. Xu claimed that he wanted to see my handwriting and tricked me into giving him my hand-copied Falun Gong book. They also searched my bedroom. In the afternoon, they came back with the computer and printer. They took photos of me and recorded a video as well. They interrogated me three times. My hand-copied Falun Gong book became the ‘evidence’ they used against me.

“Eight officers, including Chen Wanchun of the Qi County Domestic Security Office, and Xu and Song Xinyu of the Qi County Police Station, showed up at my home on April 28, 2025. They claimed that a surveillance camera had recorded me putting up Falun Gong stickers three days before. They attempted to arrest me, but I refused to go with them.

“Days later, on May 7, officer Xu and another person took photos of my tricycle. Xu came to my home again on May 30. While he was talking to me, another officer was doing something in my living room. I didn’t see the second officer until they both left.

“Around 10:30 a.m. on February 3, 2026, five officers broke into my home. They were all new faces. I later confirmed that one of them was Ge Li from the Xiguan Police Station. When I refused to go with them, they forcibly carried me to a police car and took me to the Qi County Police Department, where I was searched, interrogated, videotaped, photographed.

“They took me to the Kaifeng City Detention Center in the afternoon. I was given a mandatory physical exam first. After the exam results came out a few hours later, the detention center refused to admit me as I was deemed unfit for detention. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., officers from the Qi County Police Department, the Domestic Security Office, and the police station kept calling the detention center. The guards there maintained that they wouldn’t take me. Finally, the police agreed to release me. It was already 10:30 p.m. when I returned home.”
