(Minghui.org) I feel fortunate to practice Falun Dafa; the principles guide me to constantly improve myself. Because the standard is high we should look within, identify our gaps, and strive to cultivate better. We should treat people, including other practitioners, well.
I’d like to share my thoughts about sickness karma. A number of practitioners in my area recently had illness symptoms and passed away. Some practitioners summarized their cultivation experiences and submitted them to Minghui. If the practitioners who passed away were arrested and detained we sometimes attributed their deaths to the physical torture and mental pressure they were subjected to.
I often wonder if the practitioners who went through these tribulations, along with those around them, could have handled the situations better. After local practitioner Ying passed away recently I decided to write this article.
Ying was aware of her sickness symptoms a while ago. She examined her cultivation, rectified herself, and felt good about it. She continued going out and telling people the facts about Falun Dafa. As time passed, the illness symptoms returned. This time she could not take it and went to a hospital. A doctor said she had issues with her lungs and he recommended treatment. She refused the treatment and went home.
People who knew Ying said she had a strong character and could not take negative feedback. She asked a few practitioners to send forth righteous thoughts for her, but she eventually passed away.
My understanding is that as practitioners we know that sickness is related to our karma. If Ying hadn’t practiced Falun Dafa, she probably would have become sick and died anyway. Cultivation practice is serious. If we can truly assimilate ourselves to Falun Dafa’s standards and always look inward to improve our xinxing, we should be able to pass various tests. On the other hand, if we just focus on doing things and neglect improving our xinxing we may fail the tests.
I’d like to remind other practitioners to not be judgmental. Every practitioner has their own situation and is walking their own cultivation path. We should not causally comment on others about whether they should, or should not, do certain things. Instead, we can tell others how we handled certain issues and passed tests. Instead of judging others we should encourage and help practitioners who are going through sickness karma tribulations.
I feel that cultivation is essentially about improving ourselves. It’s not coincidental when we experience something or notice others are. We should remember that these are opportunities to identify our cultivation gaps and improve in these areas.
These are my understandings. Please kindly point out anything that is inconsistent with the Fa (teachings).
