(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Jinfeng, 78, who lives in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, did not return home after four police officers took her for a physical exam during the week of March 23, 2026. The exact date is not known. Her family was later told that she was sent to the Dalian City Detention Center and sentenced to one year in prison.
Ms. Wang was convicted because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. Her quick sentencing in one week of her latest arrest, however, was unusual even by the communist regime’s standard of rushing the prosecution of practitioners even though in China, it’s not illegal to practice Falun Gong.
Ms. Wang’s family suspects the latest sentencing might have been related to a prior jail term. She was previously sentenced to two years on March 17, 2022, following an earlier arrest in 2020, also for practicing Falun Gong. Due to health reasons, she was allowed to serve time outside of prison. Before her 2022 sentencing, the police took her for physical exams four times and made her pay 4,000 yuan in exam fees. She was deemed unfit for detention and sent back home each time. After four officers from the Huajia Town Police Station took her for another physical exam in late March 2026, however, they did not allow her to go home. Instead kept her in custody and got her sentenced to another year.
As the authorities kept Ms. Wang’s family in the dark of her latest prosecution details, they do not know how her one-year sentence was handed down.
Details of Prior 2-Year Prison Sentence
Ms. Wang’s prior two-year sentence stemmed from an earlier arrest on the late morning of April 8, 2020, after she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong together with another practitioner Ms. Tian (in her 70s). The arresting officers from the Huajia Town Police Station took the two women to the Pulandian Hospital for a physical exam and forced each of them to pay a 300 yuan in medical fees.
Around 3 p.m., six officers raided the two women’s homes. They were released around 8 p.m. When Ms. Wang arrived home one hour later, she noted many items had been confiscated by the police, including a printer, a computer, two sets of Falun Gong books, a hole punch, a laminator, two paper cutters, three staplers, print paper, and some cartriges.
Ms. Wang was arrested again on November 9, 2020, while distributing Falun Gong materials at the Huajia Supermarket together with another practitioner, Ms. Wang Yanfeng. They were taken to the Jinzhou Hospital for a physical exam. Afterwards they were driven to the Dalian Medical School for color Doppler ultrasounds. They were each forced to pay 900 yuan in exam fees.
Both women were deemed unfit for detention, but the police still took them to a local detention center. They were denied admission. The police dropped them off at a place and they had to call a taxi to get back home.
The police took Ms. Wang Jinfeng for a physical exam in 2021 and made her pay 800 yuan in exam fees. They also took her to the Jinzhou District Court and threatened to have her sentenced to two and a half years.
Officer Wang from the Huajia Town Police Station took Ms. Wang to the Dalian Hospital for a physical exam on January 7, 2022, and made her pay the exam fee (2,000 yuan). He attempted to extort an additional 5,000 yuan from her but she refused to pay.
The local street committee called Ms. Wang’s family on February 3, 2022, and ordered them to have her report to the local judicial office in five days for so-called “evaluation.”
Ms. Wang received a notice from the Jinzhou District Court on March 14, 2022, that a virtual hearing was scheduled three days later. On March 17, her daughter helped her connect to the court using a cell phone. She was sentenced to two years to be served outside of prison.
