Michael Porrazzo, a renowned quantum physicist and inventor, saw Shen Yun for the second time this year on March 26. “The dedication, the precision of the dancers, the athletes, it’s just absolutely amazing,” he said. “And we so enjoy how you take the historical aspects and the modern and you bring them together and really bring light to conditions and situations that really need people's awareness. You did a fantastic job.”
Mr. Porrazzo was moved by the stories in the performance. “Even in the darkest hour when the practitioners were being persecuted by the Chinese [Communist Party] and really, you know, organs being removed from them, you gave such a ray of hope to show that if your inner strength is there, despite the darkest of circumstances, there’s a Creator who loves you and that you will ultimately be able to be redeemed. Absolutely fantastic message.”

Bestselling author James Lindsay was deeply impressed by the depiction of pre-communist China as he watched Shen Yun on March 25. “It’s a powerful experience for audience members. And the message is a very important message, which is that there is a traditional culture in China and there are traditional cultures all over the world, and that communism is a threat to those cultures,” he said. “It’s a very inspiring story. I’m familiar with the circumstances. To see it portrayed so vividly and interactively was a very powerful, emotional experience.”
Mr. Lindsay found the overall production excellent: “Very well put together, very high level of talent, very high level of skill by the performers. The music, the lighting, the graphics, the whole thing comes together perfectly.”
Five-time Emmy Award-winning photographer: “We Had No Idea How They Did It”

Jose Villareal, a five-time Emmy Award winner for cinematography and editing, praised Shen Yun from the perspective of a professional photographer and editor. “The music was very powerful,” he said. “We could really feel its effect. … We came out of it feeling the effect of the music. I can see what the emcee means by the saying that the early form of medicine was music.”
Mr. Villareal was also impressed by the choreography and stagecraft. For example, he was astonished by one particular moment when a character turned from old to young in the blink of an eye. “We had no idea how they did it. The transition was so smooth, so well executed—really impressive!”
He believes that the traditional culture showcased in the performances is authentic and wonderful. “It talked about how tradition is important to one’s soul,” Mr. Villareal added. “I think that’s meaningful, and people need to hold on to that.”
Charity Manager: The Essence of Humanity

Jennie Goodpaster reflected on the performance after she saw Shen Yun in Minneapolis on March 27. She agreed that humanity originated from the divine, and that people came down to earth to experience life. She said that in this process, as our experiences evolve, we will undergo transformation, but there is also the struggle between darkness and light.
Ms. Goodpaster said that Shen Yun speaks directly to the essence of humanity, which she found truly enlightening. She said that Shen Yun opened her heart: “This not only allowed me to understand my own culture more deeply, but it also makes me deeply feel the emotional connections that link us all. It is opening my heart and connecting me more closely with the essence of humanity.”
She said that Shen Yun contains the power to overcome difficulties and that is vitality. For her, the entire performance was full of life and energy. “And vitality does not necessarily mean ease and comfort; it also contains elements of struggle and the vitality that will eventually overcome difficulties.”
Dance Teacher: “Like Flowers Dancing on Water”

Dance teacher Linda Dawes has 18 years of experience in dance performance and teaching. After taking in the performance on March 21 in St. Louis, she said Shen Yun was spectacular. “If I had to choose one word, I felt like they were like flowers dancing on water, very delicately. So it was beautiful, mesmerizing.
“With the female dances, I think they were all very delicate and very precise, so in sync with each other, which was amazing to see. They were very delicate. All of their movements were very controlled and well done,” she noted. “For the men, I loved the acrobats and the spinning and the jumping high in the air, and just really showed off their strength and defending. So they were almost like warriors but dancing in the warrior style, which was really cool to see.”
Ms. Dawes appreciated the artists’ dedication to the art form and their discipline and faith, along with their willingness to put themselves out there and show their story to the world. “They have shown a beautiful art form that instills peace in people and it helps to show a message. And what they're doing, they should be very proud of.”
She also said that the teamwork was impressive and genuine. “I just think the way that they move across the stage and how they work as a team together is very divine in itself. They show that teamwork together on the stage that they’re willing to do whatever it takes. And I can imagine that that’s how they live when they’re not traveling and probably as they’re traveling, they are a team and they’re working together and they have faith in each other.”
Ms. Dawes said the message is clear: “I do think we need more love and patience and tolerance in our world. There’s a lot of evil going on all around our world, and we need more compassion and faith and kindness and tolerance. I do believe we have a Creator that created us for good, for purpose, and for love and kindness. We should be showing that to others and we should advocate for that—for kindness for everyone.”
Ms. Dawes felt that the performance was very beautifully presented. “I feel like it really embodied the whole story, even the music, the songs that they sang, the words, and being incorporated with that last piece too—just we all deserve salvation. Our Creator wanted us to have salvation. Here on earth, this is all temporary. If we want a lighter, brighter, beautiful forever, we need to get it together. And you know, show those principles to one another, to ourselves, and to others. And by doing so, I think we’d be in a much better place.”
Despite Bomb Threat, Physician Brings His Family to See Shen Yun

Gregory Au, a general physician, brought his family to see Shen Yun in Sydney on March 29 with his family. “There’s much to know about traditional Chinese culture. It is very rich and there’s a lot of depth to it,”said Dr. Au, who is of Chinese descent. “I wanted them to see that there was also a lot of Chinese culture which didn’t have anything to do with the Communist Party.”
In particular, he said that people should not be oppressed, as they should have the freedom of speech and the freedom of thought. “I think Shen Yun performances help spread this message—that there’s a lot of kindness and there’s nice people around,” he explained.
Dr. Au knows that China is different from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). “It’s important that Chinese—well, I’m obviously ethnically Chinese, it’s important that Chinese people need to feel that the CCP doesn’t represent them,” he said. “I think that’s number one; the importance of who we actually are—we have our culture and we are not at all the CCP.”
In fact, Dr. Au shared that he and his family came to see Shen Yun partly because he heard about the CCP’s bomb threat. “That’s in fact actually one of the reasons I’m here. Recently there was news [of the bomb threat]. Apparently some communist Chinese threw a [bomb threat] message at the Prime Minister’s house, and Shen Yun was threatened,” he continued. “So I thought we have to come.”
