(Minghui.org) A married couple in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, remain detained for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Mou Le and her husband, Mr. Liang Erlong, were arrested on March 18, 2026. A group of plainclothes officers broke into their rental home in Huanggu District, Shenyang, at around 2 p.m. that afternoon. Without producing a search warrant or showing their IDs, the police spent over four hours searching their residence. They confiscated the couple’s computer, printer, copy paper, and cell phones.
Mr. Liang was not in when when the police arrived. He returned home from work during the raid. He and his wife were both taken to the Xinmin City Police Department Case Processing Center for interrogation and physical exams. Xinmin is under the jurisdiction of Shenyang.
The couple learned during the interrogation that the arresting officers were from the Shenyang City Domestic Security Office, the Xinmin City Domestic Security Office, and three police stations (Xinnongcun, Fahaniu, and Dongcheng) in Xinmin City.
The couple’s family noted that nearly 10,000 U.S. dollars went missing after the police raid, and they suspected that the police pocketed the money.
The family managed to find out that the Xinnongcun Police Station was involved in the arrests. They went there to inquire about the legal basis for the arrests. Officer Cui Hongshuo claimed that they were just following orders from higher-ups to assist other police agencies with the arrests.
Cui also said that the couple signed the list of confiscated items, as did the community workers who were present during the police raid. He directed the family to the community office to obtain a copy of the list of confiscated items. The family confirmed later that the couple’s signatures were not on the confiscation list.
Cui next shifted the blame to the Xinmin City Domestic Security Office. When the family asked whom they should talk to, he promised to check with the Domestic Security Office. He never got back to the family.
The family contacted officer Xu Hongze of the Xinmin City Domestic Security Office on their own. Xu was also unable to provide any legal basis for the couple’s arrests and claimed that he too was just “following orders.”
The family hired a lawyer to represent the couple. The lawyer met with Mr. Liang at the Xinmin City Detention Center and Ms. Mou at the Shenyang City First Detention Center. They told him that the police never presented any legal basis to justify the arrests or the home raid. To this day, the police have not returned the confiscated items.
Mr. Liang and Ms. Mou credit Falun Gong for turning them into better people. Once, in 2025, Mr. Liang noted that a company he did contract work for overpaid him by nearly 3,000 yuan. He immediately returned the money. His honesty and integrity won their trust and they hired him to do more projects.
Prior to this latest round of persecution, Ms. Mou was arrested on July 10, 2019. Her neighbor reported seeing people prying open her door and breaking in that day. She was then carried out. Mr. Liang returned home later to find his home in a mess. Ms. Mou was later sentenced to four years in prison and fined 20,000 yuan. Her elderly father was dealt yet another blow when Ms. Mou and her husband were arrested again in March 2026.
