(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old woman in Deyang City, Sichuan Province, has been detained incommunicado since her arrest on March 17, 2026, for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Jian Yicong has also been indicted and is now facing trial.

Ms. Jian was arrested at home by six officers at around 5 p.m. on March 17, 2026. According to her neighbor, she was still wearing slippers when being taken away, and she was shouting, “Falun Dafa is good.”

When Ms. Jian’s lawyer went to the local detention center to visit her on March 23, he was told that she had been transferred to a hospital. But the guards refused to reveal which one.

The lawyer contacted the Jingyang District Domestic Security Office, which was in charge of Ms. Jian’s case. The police also refused to tell him which hospital she was staying at, but directed him to the Jingyang District Court, where her case now rests.

The lawyer went to the court to review the case file, but was denied. He was told that the court hadn’t assigned a judge to work on the case and that he should wait for further notice from them.

The lawyer then went to the Jingyang District Procuratorate, which also denied his request to review the case file, with the excuse that the case was with the court now. The prosecutor added that it was the court that issued the formal warrant for Ms. Jian.

So far, Ms. Jian’s lawyer or family haven’t received any update about her case. Her family called the detention center and asked where she had been taken. The guards responded that they did not handle such requests over the phone. They asked the family or their lawyer to visit the detention center in person, when the lawyer had already gone there days earlier and was not told Ms. Jian’s whereabouts.

Past Persecution

Ms. Jian took up Falun Gong in October 1998. She makes a living by offering rides on her electric tricycle. Since the persecution began in 1999, she has been repeatedly targeted and given two prison sentences.

Ms. Jian was arrested in early 2001 for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. She was detained for over four months and was subjected to frequent brainwashing and other abuses.

Ms. Jian was arrested again in early 2002 and detained for over two months. She was again subjected to mental and physical abuse.

While attending a gathering of local practitioners on August 23, 2002, Ms. Jian was arrested for the third time and detained for ten months. She was force-fed, her teeth became loose, and her face and mouth were severely injured. She was later sentenced to two years and tortured at the Chengdu City Women’s Prison.

Ms. Jian was arrested one more time on July 31, 2011, for passing out Falun Gong materials. She suffered both fecal and urinary incontinence due to torture in the detention center.

After another arrest in August 2012, Ms. Jian was secretly sentenced to three years. While serving time at the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison, she was constantly beaten, deprived of sleep, forced to stand for hours on end, and forced to wear a straitjacket. She suffered incontinence again. The guards also frequently forced her to watch materials slandering Falun Gong and ordered her to renounce the practice.

Despite years of incarceration and torture, Ms. Jian remained firm in her faith and persists in raising awareness about the persecution. She was distributing Falun Gong materials at Huangxu Town in January 2017 when a villager reported her. She was soon arrested by the Huangxu Town Police Station officers, who also ransacked her home.

Ms. Jian was arrested again on July 19, 2022, while doing household chores. The police accused her of talking to a student about Falun Gong, but she said she never did so. Due to health reasons, she was released on bail around midnight.

A few days later, Ms. Jian’s electric tricycle suddenly stopped charging. When she sent it in for repair, the technician found a GPS-enabled camera near the battery.

Ms. Jian was summoned to the Jingyang District Procuratorate in February 2023. Only when she asked about it did the prosecutor fill out the summons request. To avoid further persecution, she was forced to live away from home.
