(Minghui.org) Mr. Chen Yantong, 43, began practicing Falun Gong when he was a teenager in the 1990s. After the Chinese Communist Party ordered the nationwide persecution of this ancient spiritual and meditation discipline in 1999, he has been repeatedly harassed for not renouncing his faith.

Mr. Chen, born in April 1983 in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, once had his ID confiscated. The police forbade him from leaving Shantou and closely monitored him. He is unable to live a normal life or get married. His parents also live under tremendous pressure.

Mr. Chen was most recently harassed over the phone on May 9, 2026. An officer from the Jinping District Police Station demanded to “visit” him at home. After he refused, the officer ordered him to report to them. Mr. Chen still refused to comply.

Past Persecution

Mr. Chen was first arrested on April 11, 2001, when he was 18. While held at the Jinyuan District Lockup, he was beaten and force-fed saline solution. Xie Kexiong, an officer of the Jinyuan District Police Station, threatened to detain him and other local practitioners for as long as he wanted and to torture them however he wanted, because he was backed by Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party who ordered the persecution in 1999.

In 2015, Mr. Chen filed a criminal complaint against Jiang, when the Chinese Supreme People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuratorate announced that they would accept any case that was filed. The local community personnel harassed Mr. Chen and his father for days in November 2015.

Around six police officers and community workers showed up at Mr. Chen’s home at 9 p.m. on June 7, 2017. One of them was wearing a body-cam. They demanded to know where Mr. Chen worked. He refused to tell them.

Officer Lin Sile of the Tuopu Police Station broke into Mr. Chen’s home around 8:30 p.m. on May 26, 2021. He again demanded to know where Mr. Chen was working. Mr. Chen refuted that why he asked for the information. Lin pushed him on the chest and threatened to arrest him.

Mr. Chen was indeed arrested later on. The police hit his ankles and knees with a wooden stick. They also handcuffed him behind his back and pulled the handcuffs up. He suffered from long lasting pain as a result.
