(Minghui.org) After serving five and a half years for practicing her faith, Falun Gong, a woman in Shulan City, Jilin Province, was finally released in January 2026. Due to the abuse she endured in prison, however, she suffers from reduced mental capacity, slow speech, and significantly declined memory.

Ms. Wang was arrested on July 15, 2020, when she visited a local practitioner. She did not know the police were ransacking that practitioner’s home. Four officers took her to her home and they ransacked it. Her Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, Ipad tablet, and over 9,000 yuan in paper bills printed with information about Falun Gong (as a creative way practitioners to tell people about the persecution), were confiscated.

Ms. Wang was taken to the police station where she was interrogated. The police intimidated her and poured cold water over her head. She went into shock twice. She was forced to undergo a physical exam the next morning and she was admitted to the Jilin City Detention Center that afternoon.

In the detention center, Ms. Wang shared a wooden sleeping platform with over 30 people; they had to sleep on their sides and they could not move. The cell’s head inmate Pan Xiaomin often abused her and other the Falun Gong practitioners.

Two officers from the Ping’an Police Station ordered Ms. Wang to renounce Falun Gong. When she refused to comply, they lied to her that her daughter-in-law was divorcing her son because of her faith. They also drove a wedge between her and her son by lying to him that she said she didn’t care whether he lived or died.

The authorities also threatened to fire her son from his job at the local transportation department and they suspended his salary for months.

Ms. Wang went through two court hearings in September and October 2020, and she was sentenced to 5.5 years around January 2021. She was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison two days after she was convicted.

Tortured in Prison

Ms. Wang was forced to sit on a small stool for hours every day, sometimes from early morning until 1 a.m. The inmates placed a piece of paper between her legs; if the paper fell, they lengthened the time she had to sit. Her restroom use was also restricted.

After 22 days in the admission team, Ms. Wang was transferred to the Eighth Division. Inmates Lyu Shiyao, Wu Dan, Li Li, and Wang Minghui, used different methods to torture her.

On March 27 one year, the inmates pressed Ms. Wang and Ms. Liu Guixian against the concrete floor and poured six basins of ice cold water on them. Since then, Ms. Wang struggled with frequent urination. Later on, her eyes became swollen and her vision declined quickly. The inmates forced her to take unknown drugs; they would pull her hair if she refused to take it. She was only given half of the regular food portion. The abuse caused her to have dangerously high blood pressure for more than a year.

Ms. Wang was also made to work for long hours without pay. Without proper personal protective equipment, she suffered hearing loss due to the noise from the machinery.

In addition to the physical torture, Ms. Wang was forced to write a one-page thought report every week. She was also forced to condemn Falun Gong and its founder in front of others.

Ms. Wang witnessed the torture that other practitioners were subjected to. Ms. Xu Lina was tied up on a death bed for 14 days. She had to relieve herself in the bed and was not covered with a blanket. When they removed the handcuffs and shackles she could not stand.

Ms. He Ping was forced to make over 4,000 hats every day. Yet the guards only allowed her to sleep on a bare wood board, and sometimes forced her to squat for long hours at night. She was only allowed to use the restroom twice a day.
