(Minghui.org) I gradually came to understand the inner meaning of the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance after I practiced Falun Dafa. I have undergone fundamental changes. My xinxing improved, and this has brought changes to my business. I understand how to be a good person and how to do business.
My Heart Is No Longer Tired While Doing Business
Before I practiced Falun Dafa, my wife said that I was a “fighter jet.” I was very competitive but small-minded. A lot of things in business annoyed me. For example, if a business in the same industry had good products that I didn’t have, I felt anxious. When I had transferred money to the supplier, but hadn’t received the goods yet, I felt anxious. When I had a backlog of stock, I felt anxious. When clients didn’t pay, I felt anxious. I was unhappy all the time.
After practicing Falun Dafa, I started to measure everything according to the Fa when there were issues with my business. I let go of my attachments and thought from a different perspective. I treated my family members, clients, people in the same industry, and suppliers with kindness.
I used to become frightened when clients didn’t pay. Some clients went bankrupt and turned on me when I went to collect money. The debt was not big enough to be worthy of a lawsuit. I was just seething with anger. After practicing Falun Dafa, Dafa’s principles broadened my mind. I can take things lightly. I was no longer exhausted.
One client owed me more than 10,000 yuan ($1,475). His business was going to shut down. I chased the debt multiple times. He didn’t pay. I later realized that I should put myself in his shoes. He didn’t have cash, so he could pay me back with his products. I said, “If you have used computers, you can give me two to pay back the debt.” He sent two computers to me immediately. When I tested the computers, they didn’t work. I rang him. He flipped on me and said, “I’ve been too nice to you. It looks like you want a punch! You practice Falun Dafa. Don’t you realize it? I will report you to the police.”
I needed to look within now. I was not righteous and felt hatred. Superficially, I was good to him. In fact, I was afraid of losing money. He had a disabled child and was divorced. His business was going to close. I should understand him and not put pressure on him like everyday people would. I had clarified the truth to him before. I shouldn’t push him against Falun Dafa just because I wanted my money back. If I didn’t practice Falun Dafa, it would be easy for me to push him out of business. I had no resentment against him.
I said, “The police know that I practice Falun Dafa. You can report me to the police. I am not afraid. I understand your situation. You can delay the payment of 10,000 yuan. If you really don’t have money, I am OK that you don’t pay it back. But you cannot say anything against Falun Dafa. That would be harming yourself.” His attitude changed and he said, “I am sorry. Please forgive me. I will come to see you and thank you some day.” He went bankrupt and didn’t pay back the debt. I behaved according to the Fa principles. I was not worried about the loss, and I treated him as normal. My business became better and better.
A business owner sold fake products wholesale and badly hurt my sales. In the past, I would have reported him to the authorities and let him learn the hard way. But now I practice Falun Dafa. I don’t have enemies. I invited him to dinner. I talked about my business experience during the meal.
I said, “In the old days, I sold fake products more than anyone else did and earned a bad reputation. But I worried all the time that I might get into trouble. After practicing Falun Dafa, I understand that Heaven rewards hard-working people. If we want our business to be everlasting, we must do it in a righteous way. I really want good things for you.”
He was moved and said, “Brother, please don’t say anymore. I will not damage your business anymore. Please trust me and watch my actions.” He hasn’t sold fake products since. He previously didn’t dare to see me. Now he often comes to my shop. He invited me to his wife’s sister’s wedding as a special guest and sat me at a table of his relatives. He dragged me to take photos with the bride and their extended families. I clarified the truth to his parents, his brothers-in-law, and his wife’s sisters and helped them to withdraw from the CCP and its affiliated organizations.
I have an employee who is very capable. I let her sell my products independently. One day I found out that she didn’t issue a product list invoice and transferred my products to a client, and the products were worth more than 30,000 yuan ($4,428). I called the client to check.
He was frightened to tears and said, “Please do not report me to the authorities. I will send the money to you immediately. I know you are a good person.” He might have known the law. He would be sentenced for the 30,000 yuan he illegally possessed. I had clarified the truth to him before. I had also told my employee about Falun Dafa. I understood that even I had made mistakes after I practiced Falun Dafa, and I have Dafa's principles to guide me.
The employee is an everyday person and doesn’t have anything to restrain her. Isn’t it to be expected that she makes some mistakes? I should give her opportunities to correct her mistakes. She has had a hard life. Her husband was unemployed. She had a young child. Their parents supported them financially. I didn’t hate her for damaging my business. I got my money back. I had loopholes in my management style. I should also bear responsibility. I let her continue to work for me and asked her husband to work for me too. She was very touched and said, “You are truly different from other people.” She later bought a copy of Zhuan Falun and invited my wife and I to have dinner at her home. I clarified the truth to her brother, mother-in-law, and her mother.
My Business Philosophy
I thought I was very smart before I practiced Falun Dafa. I could know in advance which product would become popular. I sold those products and found it easy to make money. I didn’t have any concept of business morals. I became happy when good things happened to me. I felt sad when bad things happened. I didn’t have any moral direction.
Master said,
“you should trade fairly and maintain a righteous mind.” (Lecture Four, Zhuan Falun)
I understand that this is the business philosophy. This is the eternal business philosophy for mankind. “A righteous mind” refers to a person’s character. Only when I have a righteous mind, can I do business fairly. I disciplined my business according to Dafa’s principles. I stopped purchasing fake products and reminded myself to be a good businessman and to not tarnish Falun Dafa. I understand from the Fa that a person won’t gain more because he or she is smart or gain less because he or she is dull. God doesn’t judge a person by capability, but rather by how much virtue or karma the person has.
I respected and treated people in the same industry kindly. I was considerate. I disclosed my business secrets to other people. I didn’t suffer any losses. Instead, I gained respect from them. Some business owners introduced new clients to me. I invited my clients and their guests to meals together. I clarified the truth and talked about the withdrawal from the CCP during the meal. I clarified the truth to many people in all those years. I really hope that people can learn Falun Dafa. Some people know that I practice Falun Dafa and said that Falun Dafa must be good.
When new clients opened businesses and were afraid of being cheated by suppliers, I said to them, “My principle is that I respect the big businesses and support the small businesses. You can purchase products from me as much as you want without worrying.” They were reassured and had no worries.
One business owner brought me some local specialties when he came to purchase goods from me. I clarified the truth to him. I said, “We practitioners don’t accept gifts. As long as you do business well, I will be happy.” He agreed with Falun Dafa. We talked about Falun Dafa every time he came. But gradually I found that he didn’t make his payments on time. This was taboo in business. He always owed me a lot when we settled the account at the end of year. He was not in good health. His child was of school age. His small shop was his family’s only source of income. My wife wanted to stop supplying goods to him several times.
I comforted her and said, “His family is not in good shape. If we stop supplying goods to him, it amounts to us cutting off his lifeline. We should support him.” My wife said, “You support him. Who supports us?” I said, “I treat people kindly. Our family and business are doing well. This is a blessing from Falun Dafa.”
When I was no longer in business, he rang me and invited me over twice. He said, “We have a new touring site with an investment of hundreds of millions of yuan in our county. Please come and have a look.” He wanted to pay me back. I didn’t go. He said, “It’s nothing, just a small token of my appreciation.” He was sincere. But I have a principle in my heart, which is that I only help people and don’t bother them.
One client owed me more than 20,000 yuan. When he first opened his business, he promised this and that to me. When he went bankrupt, I didn’t know his whereabouts. One local person said that he had invested in a highway. The authorities then stopped the highway construction. His investment was flushed down the toilet. I had clarified the truth to him several times. Even if I didn’t see him again, I didn’t regret it. People who have been saved are the wealth of the universe. My little money doesn’t count. My wife said, “I am OK if he pays back half of our money. He has no conscience.” I persuaded her and said, “It might be that I owed him in my past life. Now I’ve paid off the debt.” She said, “I would have become sick if you didn’t comfort me.”
I was worse than my wife when this kind of incident happened before I practiced Falun Dafa. I have around 100 clients. Some of them erased their outstanding debts when they closed their shops. Some gave back the products to offset their debts. Some didn’t pay their debts at all. I had a few bad debts ranging from thousands of yuan to tens of thousands of yuan. The biggest bad debt was 140,000 yuan. I took it lightly. Whether it was a gain or loss, I just followed the course of nature.
Being Kind
Every incident in business was an opportunity for me to improve my xinxing. Being kind or not is just a matter of thought. This thought will produce a different result.
First Story
A business owner from a remote shop purchased only a few products worth several hundred yuan each time. Sometimes he owed me money. He took the early bus and arrived at my store before we opened. Other suppliers didn’t want to accept such a client. But I didn’t dismiss him. I helped him move the goods and load them into his car. I didn’t come home until he left.
One day his wife came to purchase goods. She said her husband had a car accident and might have to have his leg amputated. She cried. I said, “Please ask him to repeat ‘Falun Dafa is good’ and ‘Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.’ Don’t get it amputated if possible. If he repeats these phrases sincerely, miracles will happen.” She said, “I will tell him. But I am not sure whether he will believe it or not.” I said, “You don’t need to pay the debt now and don’t need to pay for this load of products now. Please use the money to have him see the doctor.” She was very moved, and said, “I didn’t know that my husband had made a good friend like you.” During that time, I kept delivering goods to them. I also delivered new goods to them which they didn’t order. Several years later, he became the biggest shop in this industry in their area. He respected me very much every time he saw me. Whenever he mentioned his stories, he said, “It was all because of you. Otherwise, I would have lost my business.”
Second Story
I had a shop for rent. The normal rental would be 55,000 yuan. I asked for 50,000 yuan. The tenant was very grateful to me and sent me some gifts. I said, “Falun Dafa practitioners don’t accept gifts. If you insist on sending me gifts, I will increase the rent.” He exclaimed, “You are indeed different from other people.”
The road in front of the shop was going to be rebuilt one summer. It was scheduled to be completed in 20 days. But the work was delayed for three months. He talked to the contractor. The contractor said, “No need to talk to me. However much the government gives me, I do the corresponding amount of work.”
He and the shopper owner nearby went to see the related government department. A group of policemen went there as well. The police said, “If you don’t leave. You will be arrested.” He said angrily, “The government doesn’t give us compensation for the losses to our business. Where can we go to seek justice? We, everyday people, won’t live well if the CCP does not fall.”
I comforted him and said, “I will compensate you for 2,000 yuan. Please deduct it from your rent.” He was touched and said, “I admire Master, who has taught someone like you.” I was very tight before I practiced Falun Dafa. I felt heart wrenched when I invited someone to dinner, let alone giving someone 2,000 yuan. Falun Dafa has changed me fundamentally.
Third Story
One business owner in a village was a disabled person. His face was as big as a palm and dirty, and looked terrifying. When he first came to purchase products, the shop assistant got scared when he came in. I said, “Treat him kindly and help deliver the goods for him.” I talked to him about Falun Dafa. I said, “If you genuinely believe in Falun Dafa, you will be blessed.” He said in disbelief, “Look at my physical build. I don’t expect any blessings.”
He was married to a disabled woman one year later. The shop assistant said in surprise, “I didn’t expect that someone would like to marry him.” His wife gave birth to a boy the year after. I said to him, “This is my Master’s compassion. This is the blessing from Falun Dafa. You believe it, right?” He nodded his head.
One day he was busy loading goods and missed the last bus. He had brought more than 30,000 yuan with him. He didn’t dare to stay in a hotel. He asked my wife if he could stay at our home. My wife asked me if I was OK with it. I said “Yes.” I believe that life is equal. It was a predestined relationship that I met him. I should treat him kindly. He stayed at my home that night. We had two meals together. It was a small incident, which really struck me. If I didn’t practice Falun Dafa, I would have disdained him. But instead I was at ease.
Fourth Story
A friend borrowed 20,000 yuan from me. He said that he would return it in two months. He gave me an IOU note. I tore it up in front of him. He said with surprise, “What are you doing?!” I said, “Trust only requires an oral agreement.” To me, a person without moral responsibility needs a note. The note serves as a guarantor. Ancient people didn’t leave their name when they helped someone. This was called “accumulating virtue for one’s future life.” Nowadays people don’t trust each other even though they have an IOU note. They also need to find a guarantor.
Later, he gave me 10 kilos of beef as a gift. I didn’t accept it. He was annoyed. I then accepted it. Four years passed and he didn’t pay back the debt. I learned that he once made over 10 million yuan selling land. He invested it again, but it was a scam. He borrowed a lot of money as well. He didn’t have a pension or social security insurance. He had to rent an apartment to live in. His wife made a living by collecting rubbish.
I felt sorry for him. I said, “You don’t need to pay back the 20,000 yuan you owed me. Please take it easy.” He said, “No, I cannot do that. I can make a comeback this year.” I didn’t believe it. He was in his seventies. If he didn’t have it in his fate, how could he turn things around? If a person didn’t have moral responsibility, it would be better that he didn’t have money.
I still remembered the 10 kilos of beef he gave me. I must pay him. This was a different story from the debt he owed me. The market price was 45 yuan a kilo, 450 yuan for 10 kilos. This was a big amount of money for him. I put 450 yuan into a tea box together with a note. I asked someone to take it to him.
Fifth Story
One practitioner was detained due to practicing Falun Dafa. Her husband divorced her. Her daughter stopped going to school. She was only 16 years old. One practitioner who was close to her mother said to me, “Please give her goods on credit. I will help her open a shop. She will be finished if she just drifts through society.” I agreed to help her.
I asked the girl about her mother after I saw her. She said that she was not allowed to see her mother in prison. I asked her about her father. She said, “He doesn’t take care of me. I cook myself.” I felt sad. She was so young but had to take care of herself.
I gave her goods at the invoice cost and said she could return the goods to me at any time. I hoped that she could set up her business successfully. Her mother was released from prison years later and came to see me. She said, “My daughter praises you highly. You have helped her a lot.”
I said to myself, “You thank me. Who shall I thank?” I wouldn’t understand anything if Falun Dafa didn’t save me. Falun Dafa is a pure land. Falun Dafa warms my heart as well as other people’s hearts. I couldn’t hold back my tears when I wrote this. I haven’t seen Master and might not be a good disciple. But I am trying to improve myself all the way along.
Memories are flashing before my eyes. Every story is a shining point in my cultivation, which reflects the fundamental changes I have experienced, a rainbow reflecting my moral elevation in Falun Dafa. My experiences prove witness to Master’s grace in saving me and the extraordinary nature of Falun Dafa.
