(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Guixia went to her bank to withdraw money on May 18, 2026, but was told that she did not have enough funds. The 82-year-old resident of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, was puzzled because she knew she had a balance of over 4,000 yuan.
The bank teller checked Ms. Wang’s bank transaction records and noticed that the Linghai City Court garnished over 2,000 yuan from her account on May 16, 2026.
The Linghai City Court previously sentenced Ms. Wang to 15 months with a 2,000-yuan fine on March 25, 2024, because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Wang completed her prison term in late April 2025, but never paid the court fine because she believed she should not have been prosecuted for exercising her constitutional right to freedom of belief. She was shocked that the court would garnish funds from her bank account to cover both the principal and the interest on the fine more than a year after she was released. She asked her son to help her and call the court to find out why they did this.
Ms. Wang’s son then said that he actually received two documents from the court around May 17, 2026. One was titled “Notice of Enforcement” and the other “Order to Report Assets.” He did not get a chance to tell her before she went to the bank.
Ms. Wang, a retired textile factory worker, credits Falun Gong for freeing her from suffering from numerous diseases, including neurosis, hyperthyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, gynecological disorders, allergic rhinitis, and gastritis. She held firm to her faith after the persecution began in 1999 and was repeatedly targeted. Prior to her latest prison sentence, she served a four-year term between 2002 and 2006. She was brutally tortured during both prison terms. The swelling in her legs that she developed during her second prison sentence didn’t subside for nearly six months after she was released. See the related reports for details of her abuse in jail.
