A woman in Fuxin City, Liaoning Province, died on December 13, 2025, less than one month after being sentenced to prison for three years and three months and fined 6,000 yuan for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Wang Lidong was arrested on the morning of May 22, 2025, while she was talking to people about the communist regime’s ongoing persecution of Falun Gong. Officers from the Taiping District Police Department and the Chengnan Police Station, along with staffers from the Chengnan Street Committee, raided her home at 3 p.m. that day.
Having already served a three-year term for practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Wang was so traumatized by her latest arrest that she was unable to speak for a moment. She also struggled to fall asleep at night. The police took her to a hospital, and she was found to have a tumor in her throat. She was released on bail on June 27, 2025.
Ms. Wang gradually recovered by doing the Falun Gong exercises. The police began to harass her at home and submitted her case to the Taiping District Procuratorate. Prosecutor Hu Dan pressured her lawyer to quit representing her.
Ms. Wang’s health worsened after the police threats. Her husband took her to the Shenyang Hospital and was told that the her condition had worsened. The doctors warned that she could die at any time.
Despite her critical condition, Ms. Wang was made to stand trial at her home on November 3, 2025. Prosecutor Hu and judge Zhang Yi from the Fuxin County Court, as well as seven officers (including captain of the Taiping District Domestic Security Office), were present. She was on oxygen and unable to speak during her trial.
An officer from the Gaode Police Station delivered an official verdict to Ms. Wang’s home on November 18, 2025. She was sentenced to three years and three months in prison and fined 6,000 yuan. She died at home on December 3, 2025.
Ms. Wang’s passing capped decades of persecution for upholding her faith. She had previously been arrested on the night of July 14, 2011, while distributing Falun Gong informational materials. Jianshe Police Station officers held her in the Xindi Detention Center for an unknown amount of time.
Ms. Wang was detained for ten days in 2015, not long after she filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese Communist Party head Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999.
Ms. Wang and her husband, Mr. Song Yuewu, also a Falun Gong practitioner, were arrested on November 16, 2019, while distributing Falun Gong materials in Fumeng County, and then taken to the Fumeng County Police Department. Officers from the Xiguan Police Station in Fumeng County and the Chengnan Police Station in Fuxin City raided the couple’s home the next day.
Ms. Wang was transferred to the Xindi Detention Center, and her husband to the Fumeng County Detention Center. Both were sentenced to three-year terms at an unknown time. Ms. Wang was admitted to the Dabei Prison and Mr. Song to the Nanshan Prison. They were released on October 15, 2022.
