(Minghui.org) Mr. Yan Sanming, who lives in Anlu City, Hubei Province, was seized at his home at 9 p.m. on June 3, 2026, and taken to the Changsong Brainwashing Center which is located in Bofan Town.
The arresting officers from the Xundian Town Police Station also raided Mr. Yan’s home and confiscated his Falun Gong books and a music player he uses to do the Falun Gong exercises. They threatened to detain him for 15 days. It is unclear whether he has been released at the time of this report.
Falun Gong is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. In an attempt to force practitioners to renounce their faith, the authorities hold brainwashing centers across China to “transform” them. At least ten other Falun Gong practitioners in Anlu were confirmed to have been held at the same brainwashing center as Mr. Yan. During his detention, his severely ill wife and their son, who suffers from depression, struggled to fend for themselves.
The Changsong Brainwashing Center is located in a village committee compound, which has a metal gate that is covered with opaque plastic. The building where the brainwashing center is has a sign reading “Care Home” and has layers of metal doors, windows, and fences. The glass windows are also covered with opaque film.
There is no privacy for the detained practitioners. All the locks on the doors of the restrooms and the rooms where the practitioners were held were removed. The police could enter at any time to monitor them.
Luo Minghai, secretary of the Anlu City Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC), and Yang Junwen, head of the Anlu City 610 Office, oversee the brainwashing center, which is funded by the Xiaogan City PLAC and the Xiaogan City 610 Office. Anlu is under the administration of Xiaogan.
Both the PLAC and the 610 Office are tasked with overseeing the persecution of Falun Gong and given power to override the judicial and law-enforcement systems.
Besides Anlu, all other counties and cities under the administration of Xiaogan also run their own brainwashing centers. Some municipalities even issued quotas of minimum numbers of local practitioners to be held at the brainwashing centers.
