(Minghui.org) A married couple in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, was arrested for their faith in Falun Gong on April 20, 2026. The husband was released on bail, but the wife remains detained and is facing indictment. She is also suffering from hypertension.
Mr. Wei Yingxin, 87, and his wife, Ms. Wan Mengying, 74, were seized on the street by 16 officers from the Baiyun District Police Department and the Tonghe Police Station. The police snatched the couple’s keys and raided their home, where they confiscated their Falun Gong books, computers, printer, and other valuables. Before leaving, the police also tore the decorative couplets on the door.
Mr. Wei was released on bail later that day, and Ms. Wan was placed in the Baiyun District Detention Center.
According to insiders, nine other local Falun Gong practitioners were also arrested the same day (April 20), including Ms. Tang Huiling, Ms. Shi Yawen, and a woman nicknamed Amei. The mass arrests were ordered by the Guangzhou City Police Department, and was dubbed “Operation F1212.”
The Baiyun District Procuratorate issued formal arrest warrants for Ms. Wan, Ms. Tang, and Amei on May 27. During a physical exam, Ms. Wan was found to have a systolic blood pressure of over 170 mmHg (normal range is 120 or lower).
Past Persecution
Mr. Wei is a retired medical scientist from the Baiyunshan Pharmaceutical Company in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. He also once worked as a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Management Science. Both he and Ms. Wan have been repeatedly targeted over the past two-plus decades for practicing Falun Gong. He was previously sentenced to a four-year prison term after an arrest in 2005, and suffered brutal torture in Yangjiang Prison. He was not allowed to see his mother one last time when she died at age 97 in 2008. His younger son struggled to cope with his imprisonment and developed clinical depression.
In addition to harassing Mr. Wei and Ms. Wan, the police threatened to also implicate their family members. See the related reports for details of the couple’s past persecution.
