(Minghui.org) A man in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, is facing indictment for his faith in Falun Gong, yet the police threatened to stop his parents’ low-income subsidy if he dared to hire a defense lawyer.

Mr. Zhang Jun took up Falun Gong in 2010, amid the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of this ancient spiritual discipline. He has previously served two prison terms totaling six and a half years (October 2014 – October 2018, and November 2019 – May 2022). His latest arrest took place on May 7, 2026, after he was reported for talking to a military officer about Falun Gong.

The Gaoping District Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for Mr. Zhang on May 13, 2026. He is currently held in Cell 0221 of the Jialing District Supervision Center.

Gaoping District Domestic Security Office agents warned Mr. Zhang’s family not to hire a lawyer for him; otherwise his parents would risk losing their low-income subsidy. His father became incapacitated after a car accident and his mother suffers from chronic illnesses. The elderly couple relied on their son to do odd jobs to supplement their income.
