(Minghui.org) A 72-year-old woman in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, is facing indictment for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Wang Ruiping, a widow with no children, was taking out the trash in the afternoon on May 30, 2026, when an officer surnamed Li grabbed her. He called in three more officers to help ransack her home, and eight more officers eventually showed up.
After the police confiscated Ms. Wang’s Falun Gong books and informational materials, portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, computer, clothes, and other valuables, they took her to a case processing center for interrogation. She refused to answer any questions.
The police took Ms. Wang to a detention center. When she was examined prior to admission, her systolic blood pressure was 178 mmHg (normal is 120 or lower). She also complained about numbness in her hands, chest tightness, and a heavy head.
When the detention center declined to admit Ms. Wang, she was forced to pay 1,000 yuan and released on bail around 2 a.m. on May 31, 2026.
Upon returning home, Ms. Wang discovered that 200 yuan in brand new banknotes in an envelope was missing. She called the police, but they denied having taking the money. One officer said, “We make over 10,000 yuan a month. You think we’d care about a mere 200 yuan?” He claimed they had body-cam footage to prove their “innocence.” However, the body-cam was in Ms. Wang’s living room during the entire raid, while the cash was in her bedroom.
A few days later, Ms. Wang spotted a drone flying outside her window and a surveillance camera at her door. She called the police, who denied having any knowledge of the drone or the camera.
The police submitted her case to the Zhongshan District Procuratorate on June 17, 2026. Included in their evidence were still images from a video of a woman entering and exiting an apartment building on Sanyuan Street. The police claimed that a “child” reported to them after spotting a sticker that read “the Chinese Communist Party is an evil cult.” The “child” was not named in the case file submitted to the procuratorate.
The police alleged that the woman in the video was Ms. Wang because they saw her wearing a similar outfit. They searched for the outfit and “the Chinese Communist Party is an evil cult” stickers when they raided her home. It is unclear if they found either.
Past Persecution
Ms. Wang was previously arrested on April 12, 2013, and detained for 15 days. Her husband, Mr. Zhang Zhenji, was traumatized by her arrest. He fell into a coma and died one week after she was released.
Five officers from the Donggang Police Station deceived Ms. Wang into opening her door on June 2, 2021, and raided her home. They confiscated her computer, printer, and Falun Gong books. The detention center declined to admit her due to her poor health, yet the police kept her at the police station for four days before eventually convincing the detention center to take her.
The Ganjingzi District Court held a virtual hearing of Ms. Wang’s case on November 2, 2021, and sentenced her to two years with a 5,000-yuan fine on December 22 that year. She finished serving time on June 1, 2023.
The Zhongshan District Judicial Bureau called Ms. Wang’s relative on March 29, 2024, demanding to know her phone number. The relative refused to cooperate.
