(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old woman in Da’an City, Jilin Province, was sentenced to five years and fined 10,000 yuan for her faith in Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.

Ms. Geng Jiqiu, a former employee at the Da’an City Plant Oil company, was arrested on the afternoon of June 3, 2025, after Sanjia Village secretary Wang Baohua reported her and two other practitioners (Mr. Li Yandong and Ms. Dong Lianzhi) for talking to people about Falun Gong.

Officers Deng Yuehong, Mu Zijing, Song Guoyin, and Dou Haiyang from the Da’an City Domestic Office, as well as agents from the Huiyang Police Station, raided Mr. Li’s home. The police then raided Ms. Geng's and Ms. Dong’s respective homes together with officers from the Jinhua Street Police Station.

The two women were put in the Baicheng City Detention Center, and Mr. Li in the Da’an City Detention Center. Baicheng oversees Da’an. The three of them were issued formal arrest warrants by the Da’an City Procuratorate at an unknown time.

The police refused to provide case updates despite the practitioners’ families’ repeated inquiries. The families tried to hire local lawyers, but no one dared to take the case for fear of retaliation from the authorities. In recent years, only court-appointed lawyers were allowed to meet with Falun Gong practitioners facing prosecution for their faith, but these lawyers were all instructed to enter a guilty plea for the practitioners.

It is unclear when Ms. Geng was indicted or sentenced. The case status of Mr. Li and Ms. Dong remains unknown.

Past Persecution of Ms. Geng

Ms. Geng took up Falun Gong in November 1997 and recovered from cervical spondylosis, neurasthenia, and a six-year-long ulceration of the palms and soles in just three months. After the communist regime began to persecute Falun Gong in July 1999, she held firm to her faith and was repeatedly targeted.

Following an arrest on October 31, 2002, Ms. Geng was sentenced to 13 years and released ahead of time on December 31, 2011. She was diagnosed with uterine cancer after another arrest on September 13, 2017. She was then released on bail but was arrested again in August 2019.

The Taonan City Court secretly sentenced Ms. Geng to three and a half years in July 2020. Still suffering from uterine cancer, she was subjected to various forms of abuse, including force-feeding and injection of unknown drugs. She developed a mental disorder at one point and almost died.

Ms. Geng struggled to recover after she was released. She could only eat very little food and had to stay in bed often.
