(Minghui.org) A woman in Hui County, Gansu Province, has been detained for nearly two months because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Gao Yuqin, a teacher at the Hui County Experimental Elementary School, was arrested at work on the afternoon of May 22, 2026. She has since been held at the Wudu District Detention Center in Longnan City, which oversees Hui County.
Ms. Gao used to suffer from various diseases, including nephritis, heart disease, rheumatism, low blood pressure (45/75 mmHg when a normal range is 120/80 mmHg), wind-induced headaches (barometric pressure migraine), cervical spondylosis, slipped disc, and various gynecological disorders. Just two months after she took up Falun Gong, all her symptoms disappeared.
Prior to her latest persecution episode, Ms. Gao was arrested two other times for her faith in Falun Gong.
One of the previous arrests took place at Ms. Gao’s home on March 15, 2026, when other practitioners were reading the Falun Gong teachings in her home. Officers from the Hui County Police Department and the Chengguan Police Station broke in and arrested her and her three guests.
One of the guests, a woman in her 70s, explained how Falun Gong restored her health. She used to suffer from back pain and leg pain. Her son had to carry her. After she started practicing Falun Gong, she no longer felt any pain and her hunched back also straightened. She urged the police not to persecute law-abiding Falun Gong practitioners. The police ignored the elderly practitioner.
The police searched all three practitioners’ home and released them in the evening.
Ms. Gao later visited the police department, the local procuratorate, and the judicial bureau to deliver materials that attested to the fact that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong.
She went to the Hui County Political and Legal Affairs Committee with another practitioner on May 12, 2026. Secretary Mao Xianhua used an excuse to not meet with them. He then gathered the police department officials and the school leaders, reprimanding them for “failing to handle [Ms. Gao] well.”
The school secretary, Zhang Li, summoned Ms. Gao to her office many times to criticize her.
Ms. Gao was arrested again at work on May 22 and she is still detained at the time of this report.
