(Minghui.org) A 50-year-old woman in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province was sentenced to three and a half years with a 10,000-yuan fine on June 24, 2026, for exposing the communist regime’s ongoing persecution of her faith, Falun Gong.
Ms. Lin Jinli, born on November 7, 1975, was arrested on August 10, 2025, while vacationing in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. She bought a cell phone there and sent two text messages about Falun Gong. The Yangzhou police tracked her down and arrested her while she was still in Yangzhou. More than ten of them later traveled over 1,200 miles to Harbin to search her home.
Two of Ms. Lin’s family members were present during the raid, including her nearly 80-year-old mother, who has brain atrophy, and her niece, who was there to help care for the elderly woman. The police interrogated them for hours, demanding to know if there’s any Falun Gong informational materials hidden in the home.
Ms. Lin’s brother (father of her niece) came when the police were still raiding her home. They snatched his car key. He dialed 110 (equivalent to 911 in the U.S.). Only then did the police return his key.
The police did not find any Falun Gong materials. They seized a rectangular box, which they alleged that Ms. Lin used to block cell phone signals.
Upon returning to Yangzhou, the police called Ms. Lin’s brother numerous times, demanding to know if he had sheltered his sister’s Falun Gong informational materials. He struggled to focus on his job while caring for his mother.
Judge Feng Jie from the Guangling District Court in Yangzhou sentenced Ms. Lin to three and a half years on June 24, 2026, after two hearings on January 27 and June 2, 2026. See the related reports for details of the trial.
Ms. Lin is still being held at the Yangzhou City Detention Center at the time of writing. During her first three days of detention there, she went on a hunger strike in protest. She was later forced to study materials defaming Falun Gong. She held firm to her faith, and prosecutor Yin Liping threatened to give her a heavy sentence. The threat materialized with Ms. Lin being given 3.5 years for “purchasing a cell phone to send two text messages.”
