(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioners in Singapore gathered at Marina Barrage and Hong Lim Park on July 19 and 21, 2026, to hold a series of celebrations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Master Li’s lecture given at the inauguration ceremony of Singapore Falun Dafa Association. Practitioners expressed their infinite gratitude to Master for teaching the Fa and shared the joy they’ve experienced by following Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in all aspects of their lives.

The Singapore Falun Dafa Association was formally established on July 28, 1996, as a legally-registered group in Singapore. It is also the first Falun Dafa Association formed outside of China. After its establishment, Master visited the island city twice. Master wrote the characters for “Singapore Falun Dafa Association” at the Hotel Grand Central where he stayed on June 15, 1996. On July 28 that year, the inauguration ceremony for the Association was held at a Chinese restaurant in the Singapore landmark, the UIC building. Master attended the event and gave a lecture.

Thirty years have passed in the blink of an eye. At this milestone, Falun Dafa practitioners in Singapore who were fortunate to meet Master Li Hongzhi back then still remember his teachings and instructions as if they took place yesterday. Those teachings remain deeply engraved in their hearts.
Master Doesn’t Want a Single Penny From Us
“Master is very easygoing, amicable, and he puts on no airs at all,” said veteran practitioner Mr. Li Jincai, recounting the time he met Master 30 years ago.
On June 15, 1996, Master met with several practitioners at the hotel where he was staying. Mr. Li Jincai said, “We saw Master for the first time. A practitioner told Master, ‘We submitted an application to register the Falun Dafa Association, and we are waiting for it to be approved. Master, please write something for the association.’ Master obliged and wrote, ‘Singapore Falun Dafa Association’ in ink. Master also asked us to tell him when our application was approved, and he would host the inauguration ceremony.
“A month after Master left Singapore, our application was approved. From submitting the application to approval, it took only four months, whereas such applications usually take six months.”
On July 27, Master visited Singapore again. Mr. Li and twelve other practitioners welcomed him at the airport. Practitioners in Singapore had just begun practicing cultivation then and did not yet have a deep understanding of Dafa. Mr. Li said, “We had a meal with Master, then took photos with Master. The practitioners should have gone over to Master to take a photo with him, however Master kept having to walk around to the practitioners. He would go wherever practitioners wanted to take photos. Master is always so compassionate and so forgiving.” Mr. Li also mentioned that some practitioners wanted to give Master red packets [with gifts of money] and other gifts, but he turned them down.
The next day, Master attended the inauguration ceremony and gave a lecture, which was later published in the book Teaching the Fa at the Founding Ceremony of the Singaporean Falun Dafa Association. Master stood at the podium the entire time he spoke. There was no script nor did he stop to take even a sip of water. Looking back 30 years later, Mr. Li exclaimed, “Our Master does not want a single penny from us. He only gives, and endures selflessly.”
Cultivation Journey of a PhD Graduate from the US
In May 1995, on the campus of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Huang Weiqiang, a young student, stopped in front of a notice board. He bent down to pick up a flyer that had dropped from the board and was lying on the ground. The time and venue of a Falun Dafa introductory class was printed on the flyer.
This was how Mr. Huang learned about, and began to practice, Falun Dafa. He read the introductory book Falun Gong, then obtained a photocopy of Falun Dafa’s main book, Zhuan Falun, as well as the recordings of Master’s lectures. Zhuan Falun had only been publicly distributed in Beijing a few months before. But, as the number of people practicing Falun Dafa grew exponentially in China, Dafa books were extremely scarce. Many people even gave handwritten copies of the book to people who were eager to practice.
Mr. Huang shared, “I felt I was reading a precious book. Master spoke of many heavenly secrets I never knew of before. For instance what cultivation truly is. We generally know it simply as those who practice cultivation in the deep mountains and forests, but what does it really mean to practice cultivation? There’s ‘consecration,’ the ‘mysterious pass,’ ‘three flowers gathered at the crown’ …. no one ever explained them so clearly.”
Huang Weiqiang said that Master taught the Fa in plain and simple language, which deeply moved this graduate student steeped in the rigors of science and engineering. Every night, he attentively read his photocopy of Zhuan Falun. He cherished the book dearly.
When asked his thoughts on people’s misconceptions about cultivation, Mr. Huang said, “Someone asked me, ‘You study science. How can you believe in such things as cultivation?’ I thought, ‘Why can’t I believe in this?’ … because science itself is constantly improving; it is not the end [of our understanding]. There are many mysteries humanity still doesn’t know about, so why be stuck in a rut?”
A month after Mr. Huang finished his PhD studies and returned to Singapore, in July 1996, Master came to Singapore. Huang Weiqiang saw Master for the first time at the inauguration ceremony. He recalled that words cannot describe the joy he felt: “I had only been practicing Falun Dafa for over a year then, yet I already knew this is the Way, guiding people towards cultivation at a high level. To be able to see Master was an incredibly precious and joyous thing.”
Mr. Huang said he intently focused as Master gave the lecture: “I just wanted to take in every word Master said, to able to understand what he taught.
“In the decades that followed,” he added, “I frequently revisited Master’s lecture, which has always been a guiding force for me. Whenever I’m unsure of what to do, revisiting it always provides immense guidance.”
Mr. Huang recalled that it was a full house at the inauguration ceremony that day. The event brought together around 400 leaders from various circles, including politics, media, culture, and religion.
Although 30 years have passed by so quickly, Master’s teachings continue to resonate. Looking back on the experience of hearing Master lecture in person and the joy of starting to practice cultivation, Mr. Huang said, “To be able to hear about Dafa and practice cultivation is truly an incredibly fortunate thing. It is a great blessing and honor. My gratitude is beyond words.”
