(Minghui.org) Every Falun Dafa Day (May 13) I feel a deep sense of gratitude.

Looking back on my cultivation experiences over the years I increasingly realize that the most precious things in life are not merely physical health, a successful career, or a peaceful family. Even more important is the ability to find direction amid confusion, to get back on track after stumbling, to see hope in life despite challenges, and to ultimately attain spiritual fulfillment.

Before I began practicing Falun Dafa, my understanding of life was superficial. Although I knew I should be kind, honest, and tolerant, I often failed to live up to these standards when I was faced with conflicts of interest, disputes, and temptations.

I tended to complain when things didn’t go my way at work and I tried to escape pressure in my personal life. I was addicted to video games—I wasted vast amounts of time—and exposed myself to impure content such as pornography. On the surface, life seemed to go on as usual, but deep down I felt unfulfilled, often feeling empty and numb.

My wife’s cancer diagnosis truly made me rethink my life. She was diagnosed with late-stage cancer which was a devastating blow to our entire family. I saw how fragile life is and experienced the helplessness and fear that strike when disaster hits.

I was under immense pressure at that time, watching my wife suffer. I often lay awake at night, uncertain of the future and not sure what else I could do. Things I had once considered important suddenly seemed insignificant—fame, fortune, petty disputes, and the pursuit of pleasure all paled in comparison to what truly mattered.

When I felt most helpless I learned about Falun Dafa. I initially wished to practice because I wanted something positive, but when I finished reading Zhuan Falun and learned how the Fa teaches people to be good by following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, I was deeply moved.

I suddenly realized that people shouldn’t only seek peace and to be safe when facing difficulties; rather, they should cultivate their hearts to become truly kind, upright, and responsible individuals.

Dafa showed me there was a deeper meaning to life and helped me understand that many events are not coincidental—that suffering can sometimes serve as an opportunity to awaken and turn one’s life around.

After I began practicing Dafa the environment in our home changed and my mindset became more peaceful. When faced with my wife’s illness, I no longer reacted with fear or resentment. Instead, I learned to treat her with compassion, support her with patience, and sustain our family with positive energy.

Although my wife did not practice cultivation, I deeply experienced what Master said, “The Buddha-light illuminates everywhere and harmonizes everything.” (Lecture Three, Zhuan Falun) When a person begins to rectify themselves and elevate their moral character, their family members also benefit.

My wife’s health gradually improved, and she made it through that most difficult period. That was eleven years ago, and she’s now even healthier than before.

This is not only a blessing for our family but also a deeply moving experience. I felt the compassion of Dafa from the depths of my heart and it helped me cherish life, my family, and the opportunity to practice even more.

I’ve also noticed my changes at work. Whenever I encountered problems in the past, I tended to first look at what others were doing wrong, feel resentful, and even think I was getting the short end of the stick.

After I began cultivating I learned to look at myself first. Was my tone unkind? Was I too fixated on the outcome? Did I fail to consider things from the other person’s perspective? Was this in the company’s best interest? When I began holding myself to the standards of Dafa, many conflicts resolved themselves.

My work is smoother and my relationships with others are more harmonious. I realized that when we change so does our environment. When a person’s heart is upright our cultivation paths become wider.

Cultivation is not merely about expressing gratitude in words nor is it about turning to Dafa only when we face difficulties. Instead, it requires truly holding myself to the standards of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance in my daily life. The true test is whether I can let go of attachments, exercise self-discipline, and maintain righteous thoughts in the face of temptation.

My wife’s illness led me to Dafa and allowed me to witness its compassion; I should cherish this opportunity to cultivate all the more, rather than simply expressing gratitude while continuing to indulge my own shortcomings.

Going forward, I hope to improve myself further. I will cherish my time, give up gaming, and other harmful temptations, and devote more energy to cultivating my inner self, caring for my family, and attending to important matters.

I will be more considerate toward my wife, more responsible toward my family, and kinder and more tolerant toward colleagues and friends. When conflicts arise, instead of rushing to determine who is right or wrong, I will first look within; when faced with temptation, instead of making excuses, I will remind myself to maintain righteous thoughts.

May 13 is not merely a day of commemoration for me; it is a day that reminds me to re-examine myself and constantly align myself with the right path. I am grateful to Falun Dafa for helping me find my way when I was lost, and to Master for his compassionate guidance, which enabled me to understand the true meaning of life.

I’m determined to cultivate diligently and be guided by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I also hope that more people understand the beauty of Dafa. I will do the three things well and help Master save more people!
