(Minghui.org) I was born and raised in a materialistic family. My parents were veteran Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members, and were deeply influenced by Communist doctrine. Even common New Year traditions, like putting up couplet poems and lighting fireworks, are absent from my childhood memories.
In school I was taught atheism and evolution but I loved ancient legends and myths. I enjoyed reading anything related to mythology, from comic booklets such as The Magic Guard, and Selected Chinese Folk Tales to Chinese classics like Journey to the West and The Investiture of the Gods. There were many popular modern novels at the time, but I was not interested in them.
In my late 30s, I started having health problems. Sudden pain stopped me from walking, and I had to stop and rest before I could continue. Other people teased me, saying, “If you don’t want to walk, just take a break. No need to be so dramatic!”
I was was found to have herniated lumbar discs. I had difficulty standing up or laying down. I was unable to work. I also developed neck problems, and I was unable to raise my head or lower it. The doctor warned me that this would get worse as I got older.
I tried all kinds of treatments, including traditional Chinese medicine, western medicine, physical therapy, massage therapy, and traction, but they only lessened my symptoms.
I thought I’d give surgery a try, but a supervisor at work said, “Don’t do it. One of my relatives had urinary incontinence after surgery, and felt worse.” So I gave up on the idea.
My life was full of pain, but I had no idea what to do about it. I developed a bad temper, and often lashed out at others—I even beat my teenage daughters.
In 1997, a friend introduced me to Falun Dafa and lent me the book Zhuan Falun.
I read the book when I had time, and the more I read it, the more convinced I became. After reading just 30 pages, I found myself changing—I no longer lost my temper. I thought this book was extraordinary.
After I finished reading Zhuan Falun, my worldview completely changed. I found the answers to things I could not previously understand.
The book also taught that as a practitioner, I must not fight back when I was hit or sworn at. I should think of others first and consider their feelings. I should not compete for personal gain, but look inside whenever problems arise, and conduct myself according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a better person. I believe Zhuan Falun is a heavenly book.
In November 1997, I attended a nine-day seminar, and watched the recordings of Master’s lectures. I learned the exercises, and obtained my own copy of Zhuan Falun. I officially embarked on my journey of cultivation.
My fellow practitioners and I practiced the exercises in the morning, and we read the Fa at night, which perfectly matched my daily schedule. I felt energetic and happy every day.
Because of Falun Gong’s health benefits, the practice rapidly spread by word of mouth. Our practice site quickly grew to almost 100 people, so we split into several smaller Fa study groups, and two practice sites.
All my diseases disappeared, I walked briskly, was full of energy, and worked without fatigue. One of my coworkers owned a farm, and asked us to help with the fall harvest. Even though I was in my 50s and rarely did farm labor, I didn’t get tired from breaking off corn ears all day.
I could pick up a 50-pound bag of flour, and easily carry it up to the third floor. This would have been unthinkable before I began practicing. I used to leave work early, and take things home from the office. I stopped doing this.
I also got into a conflict with a couple, and refused to speak to them for over 10 years. After I began practicing I mended our relationship.
One day, I bought five baked flatbreads on my way home. When I got back, I realized there were six. The next morning, I went to pay for the extra flatbread. An old man who saw this said, “You’re such a kind person.”
I replied, “I practice Falun Dafa. It’s Dafa’s Master who taught me to do this.”
One evening, while crossing the road during rush hour, I was hit by an electric tricycle running a red light. The driver was a young man. He rushed over and said, “I’m sorry, granny!” He looked scared because there were three traffic police officers nearby.
I said, “It’s okay. Be careful next time!”
He thanked me, and got back on his vehicle. If a non-practitioner in her late 70s had been hit, it could’ve been really serious. But nothing happened to me.
I’m nearly 80 now, but I’m healthy and fit, and mentally sharp. I don’t need a nap during the day, and I haven’t taken any pills for more than 20 years. My children all support my practice. Each of them has a successful career, and a happy family.
My friend, do you wish to have a healthy body and a happy family too? Then you should look for a practitioner, and learn about Falun Gong. After you find out what is actually happening to Falun Gong practitioners in China, you will be blessed. All practitioners hope for good people to be safe and happy.
