(Minghui.org) Greetings, esteemed Master. Greetings, fellow practitioners!
I’m thankful for this Fa conference, which allows me to thoroughly reflect on my cultivation journey.
I feel very fortunate to practice Falun Dafa. Along my journey, I have learned some serious lessons. I would like to share my experiences with you regarding “sickness karma.”
Fortunate to Practice Falun Dafa
I was frequently ill when I was young, so family friends suggested that my parents have another child, in case I died. My mother refused. She deeply loved me, and felt that if I died she wouldn’t want to live either.
To cure my illnesses, my parents took me to traditional Chinese medicine doctors and Western doctors every month—I received countless injections and took endless medications. We even consulted a person who had spirit possession, which we found out later was three snakes. We didn’t know how dangerous spirit possession was at the time. They gave us a piece of red cloth, told us to make it into a vest, and have me wear it.
I felt Master was protecting me before I started to practice. I didn’t want to wear that vest, so I told my mother. She was surprised but hoped I would wear it so I could recover quickly. Although I was a child and had to listen to my mom, I refused to wear it. When my mother later began practicing Falun Dafa, those snakes came to threaten her life (in another dimension). Because I rejected that vest, they were unable to interfere with me.
Shortly after this, my mother borrowed a copy of Zhuan Falun and was completely engrossed in it. A few days later, we went to a practice site together. I am so grateful to Master that I finally obtained the Fa! I was coughing the day I went to the practice site, but as soon as I arrived, I barely coughed.
After we did the exercises and came home, my mother gave me my medicine. I told her I felt good and I didn’t need it. Afterward, she realized that I seldom coughed. I was no longer a “walking pharmacy,” and I never took medicine again.
About a month later, while walking home from our practice site, I suddenly felt nauseous. Although I hadn’t taken medicine for many days, I vomited up a substance with an incredibly strong medicinal odor—like a concentrated, aged herbal medicine—that was both sour and bitter.
I realized that I had taken a lot of medicine for years, and Master helped cleanse my body. While the medicine I took may have reached the sites of illness, it was powerless against my karma in other dimensions. For years, I suffered from recurring illnesses—a testament to the limitations of human health technology.
My experience reminded me of what Master wrote in the article “Enlightenment” from Essentials for Further Advancement:
“Those who really have a predestined relationship and can enlighten will come one after another, entering the Dao and obtaining the Fa. They will distinguish the righteous from the evil, obtain true teachings, lighten their bodies, enhance their wisdom, enrich their hearts, and board the boat of the Fa, sailing smoothly. How wonderful!” (“Enlightenment,” Essentials for Further Advancement)
I am deeply grateful to Master. Dafa saved me, gave me a healthy body, revealed extraordinary truths to me, and led me to the path of cultivation.
A Fine Line Between Life and Death
Because of the persecution and the heavy academic workload, I felt I had no time to study the Fa. Moreover, I noticed that when I didn’t study the Fa, things seemed to go smoothly. Yet whenever I did study, I immediately faced xinxing tests.
I failed to understand Master’s compassionate and meticulous arrangements. I even talked to Master in my heart, “Master, please don’t make me go through xinxing tests right now—I’m too busy with school. Please wait until I grow up.” I felt cultivation was difficult. I just wanted to tag along with my mother as she cultivated.
Little did I know that my waiting would result in years of wasted time—a decision I later deeply regretted. For many years I didn’t attempt to cultivate. Although I wasn’t focusing on cultivating myself and improving, I remained in good health after I obtained the Fa.
However, after giving birth to my daughter, I suffered heavy bleeding and fainted. While I was unconscious, I saw scenes from my past flash before my eyes like a movie, yet I felt so happy and warm. I was mired in the worldly entanglements of fame, gain, and sentiment—I felt miserable yet unable to break free—but the scenes I witnessed seemed entirely positive, devoid of those worldly burdens, which is why they brought such happiness.
I believe Master was giving me a hint: wake up quickly from the mundane world, let go of human attachments, and cultivate my way back to my true self!
Three Encounters With COVID-19
During the severe COVID outbreak, I visited a workplace one day. I opened the door and found a silent, pitch-black room. Directly opposite me sat two women wearing thick masks, staring coldly at me. Fear instantly gripped me: These two look so strange; in such an enclosed space, could there be a virus?
The moment that thought crossed my mind, I felt a sharp pain in my throat—as if a spider crawled into my mouth, its many claws digging into the flesh as it inched its way down into my trachea. I developed a fever when I got home. Although the fever subsided after I did the exercises, I had a stuffy nose, a sore throat, and I couldn’t taste anything for a week.
Master said:
“With this fear, it may indeed bring this person some trouble. Once you are scared, it is an attachment of fear. Isn’t that an attachment? Once your attachment surfaces, shouldn’t it be removed? The more you fear it, the more it will appear like a sickness. This attachment of yours must be removed. You will be made to learn from this lesson so that you can remove your fear and improve.” (Lecture Six, Zhuan Falun)
When a second wave of COVID-19 arrived, several people in my office fell ill. On the school bus ride home, I started feeling dizzy and had a headache. I felt really hot, too. Those were typical COVID fever symptoms. I told myself I must not give in to fear this time, so I sent forth righteous thoughts as I rode the bus. Within minutes, I broke into a sweat; my mind cleared instantly. All symptoms vanished. Through this, I truly experienced the power of righteous thoughts.
The third time, I was clarifying the truth to a friend, but I didn’t do it well. She refused to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and affiliated organizations. I felt deep regret—I hadn’t cultivated well, my explanation was poor, and I let my competitive mentality get in the way.
I may never have the chance to see this person again. Not only had I failed to save her, but I had also run out of time to speak to others nearby because I had spent so much time with her. These were very important people to me who were waiting to be saved. Overwhelmed by remorse and self-reproach, and feeling hopeless and deeply saddened, I suddenly developed a fever. My voice also went hoarse for a week, which hindered my ability to handle several important matters.
Master stated:
“Yet there is also the case where when one fails the first test, one will regret it very much upon waking from sleep. Perhaps this mentality and state of mind will reinforce your thoughts about it. When the issue again arises, you will be able to control yourself and pass the test.” (Lecture Six, Zhuan Falun)
I used to think that this regret was equal to the regret that non-practitioners have—that one had to reach that state of regret in order to pass the test the next time. However, after the old forces took advantage of a loophole this time, I realized that this way of thinking was incorrect. My regret is merely a human emotion. For a cultivator to pass a test next time, they must rely on looking inward and gaining understanding through righteous thoughts, not on human emotion.
Assisting Master in Saving People and Strengthening Righteous Thoughts
After I arrived in the United States, I was so delighted to be able to participate in Dafa activities once again. I discovered that, although I was free from the threats by the CCP, there was still significant interference—especially before some important events.
After I gave birth I felt I was recovering well by doing the exercises. However, whenever I performed the movement of Overlapping the Hands in Front of the Lower Abdomen, one arm would feel as though it were dislocated and about to fall off. I didn’t have this feeling any other time—just when I did the exercises.
While I helped sell Shen Yun tickets, I began to experience what seemed like a toothache in the evenings. This pain later spread to my ear, head, shoulder, and hand, eventually becoming so intense at night that it felt as if my arm were about to drop off. The pain made it difficult to fall asleep or rest for days. It was hard to endure.
If I used righteous thoughts to eliminate the pain, it would quickly shift locations within my body—much like a tug-of-war. Conversely, if my righteous thoughts were weak and I adopted a passive attitude of merely enduring it to “eliminate karma,” the pain would be severe. I asked the pain if it had been arranged by Master, and it would subside. It finally vanished one day as Shen Yun season was coming to an end.
Unexpectedly, during another event this year, the pain returned—this time on the other side. At first, I was somewhat afraid, wondering if I would have to endure days of pain again.
I resolved to eliminate my fear of pain and illness. Through looking inward, I indeed uncovered many attachments. Once the fear was gone, the pain vanished.
Plus, I discovered a method of looking inward that works well for me: I write down on a sheet of paper the things that have made me happy, sad, or afraid. The things I dislike doing, or fear, are often clearly rooted in attachments. If left unnoticed, they accumulate and grow, and cause significant interference.
My cultivation still isn’t adequate in many areas. I often skip sending forth righteous thoughts, using “being busy” as an excuse. That is being irresponsible toward myself, the collective environment, and sentient beings. Moving forward, I must study the Fa well and strengthen my righteous thoughts to successfully fulfill my mission.
I am grateful to the practitioners in DC for looking after me. The results of everyone’s decades of truth-clarification are incredible from a human perspective. From the perspective of a cultivator, they represent truly magnificent, mighty virtue!
Thank you, Master!
