(Minghui.org) Minghui.org previously reported on the mass arrests of 16 Falun Gong practitioners in Guye District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province, between June 9 and 11, 2026. This report presents additional details regarding two of the practitioners: Mr. Ma Yingjie and his wife Ms. Wang Xiuyun.
Ms. Wang was arrested on the night of June 9 and released the following day. The police continue to harass her, and she’s under tremendous pressure.
Mr. Ma, in his 60s, was waiting for a bus at around 7 p.m. on June 9, when a group of plainclothes officers suddenly swarmed him and took him to a Mitsubishi sedan that belonged to his friend. The police had been following him for a while and knew that his friend gave him a car key. They snatched the key, searched the vehicle, and seized some Falun Gong materials.
The police also searched Mr. Ma and took his house key, handbag, and key to his own car. The handbag contained two bank cards, his and his parents’ social security cards, and 6,000 yuan in cash.
Mr. Ma was next taken back home. Without showing a search warrant, the police used the confiscated key to open the door. They confiscated his Falun Gong books, portrait of the founder of Falun Gong, and a laptop computer.
When the police brought Mr. Ma outside his apartment building, his sister happened to come visit. His sister grabbed his hand and cried, “Don’t go with them. If you leave who’s going to take care of our elderly parents?”
The police threatened to arrest the sister for “obstructing official business.”
Mr. Ma refused to answer questions while he was interrogated at the Guye District Police Department. He was taken to a hospital the next afternoon for a physical exam. He was found to have a blood pressure of 170/110 mmHg (when a normal range is 120/80 mmHg). Many other indicators were also abnormal.
Despite his condition, the police drove Mr. Ma to the Tangshan City First Detention Center, where he was given another physical exam. His blood pressure remained high, but the police managed to make the detention center admit him.
Officer Yang (badge number 85260) and officer Li (badge number 85160) went to the detention to interrogate Mr. Ma. They both revealed that the police also searched his sister’s home and confiscated some Falun Gong books and informational materials, a printer, and 40,000 yuan in banknotes printed with the words “Falun Dafa is good.”
Yang and Li threatened to arrest Mr. Ma’s sister if he didn’t admit the items confiscated from her home were his. To protect his sister, he said those items were his.
Yang and Li returned a few days later. They brought with them several people and asked if he knew “these Falun Gong practitioners.” He refused to comply or sign their interrogation records. He said “No” when the police asked if he admitted his guilt.
Li Nan and another staffer from the Guye District Procuratorate came to the detention center on July 9, and warned Mr. Ma they were going to issue a formal arrest warrant for him. They refused to say what their legal basis was for persecuting him. Six days later, he saw an arrest warrant in his cell but didn’t know who delivered it. He is now facing indictment for his faith.
Past Persecution
Mr. Ma used to suffer from heart pauses and leg problems, but all his symptoms disappeared after he took up Falun Gong. He also became a better son and a loving husband and father.
After the Chinese Communist Party launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999, Mr. Ma refused to renounce his faith and was repeatedly targeted. He went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on December 29, 2000, and was arrested.
The Beijing police sent him back to Tangshan. Security officers Wu Liansheng and Liu Jihong at his workplace, the Lyujia Lump Ore Company, shocked him on his tongue, ears, and lips with electric batons. They also tied his arms behind his back tightly for ten minutes.
Wu and Li later put him in a room which had no heat and opened the window to freeze him. They didn’t allow him to wear warm clothes and they didn’t give him a blanket. A few other security officers also came and they took turns doing 4-hour shifts to watch him around the clock. His family was later forced to pay 3,000 yuan.
Mr. Ma was held at his company’s security department for four months. He later wrote a letter to the company management in June 2001 saying he did nothing wrong by practicing Falun Gong. They instigated officers Wu and Li to kick him to the ground and force him to kneel.
Wu and Li repeatedly slapped him in the face. After that, they sent him to the Hehuakeng Labor Camp to serve a two-year term.
Mr. Ma received a phone call from his company around 7 a.m. on May 16, 2013, asking him to report to work as soon as possible. He went but was arrested as soon as he arrived at the parking lot.
The police drove him back to his home and confiscated 500 yuan in cash and other items. That afternoon he was taken to the Tangshan City Lockup. He was released 15 days later.
Three officers from the Xinlyu Police Station harassed Mr. Ma’s parents on the morning of June 20, 2017. They photographed his father and asked for his and his father’s phone numbers.
Mr. Ma was arrested again on June 6, 2024, and held at the Beijiadian Lockup for two weeks.
