(Minghui.org) A 78-year-old woman in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was admitted to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison in July 2026 to serve a three-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Her family has not been allowed to visit her.
Ms. Zhou Fenglan is still struggling with the after effects of a stroke she suffered in 2025, including blurred speech and difficulty walking. Her family is very worried about her well-being in prison, which is notorious for torturing Falun Gong practitioners who remain firm in their faith.
Ms. Zhou’s prison sentence was followed by her arrest on March 20, 2024, for talking to people about Falun Gong. While she was soon released on bail, the police continued to harass her. She was indicted by the Dadong District Procuratorate on an unknown date.
Ms. Zhou suffered a stroke in 2025 and became bedridden. More than 10 people from the police station, procuratorate, and court held a trial her home on November 25, 2025. The judge sentenced her to three years with a 20,000-yuan fine and threatened to take her for a physical exam in preparation for her prison admission.
This is the second time that Ms. Zhou has been sentenced to prison for her faith. She was previously arrested multiple times and given a three-year term in January 2013. See the related reports for her past persecution.
